ATT balances expire/extend based on the amount that you add, e.g.<25/30days,<100/90days,
100/1yr.
your credit balance is deducted every 30 days. not seeing how i can have $25 credit expire. or $100, for that matter. not trying to antagonize. i really just don't follow.

ATT Prepaid has 3mo and 12mo plans where you pay in full upfront along with regular monthly plans
A lot of people on the $300 12mo plan so your next billing might be a while
My point was that ATT balances on an active plan don't expire so people never need to sit on prepaid gift cards. This poster was suggesting otherwise.

Maybe this helps:
I took over my mom's line a few years ago. It was on a gf'd paygo plan with a considerable balance. In the intervening years, I switched to a monthly plan and then back to paygo. I have to add a refill (further increasing the balance) or lose the balance. Based on the refill amount, the balance expiration extends 30/90/1yr as previously noted. Yeah, I should just switch to a monthly plan and burn the remaining balance but I have other lines on annual plans so I'm keep kicking it down the road. Plus the current monthly plans aren't that attractive to me. Vicious cycle. I don't know about your plan but mine has a balance expiration date.
Only recently, I learned about the $1 fee (doesn't add to balance) to extend the balance 30 days but now it costs $5 to call CS and can't be done online (as far as I know). Just struck me: Maybe I can add $1 to the balance via CC?

If I buy a $45 card and use it, will the credit be valid for 3 months? ($15 x 3 months)
Thank you in advance for the help!
I have the same plan and I buy once for the whole year around Thanksgiving. I have never had any issues with my credits expiring. I think that this is an issue for dormant accounts.

It'll still expire for ATT Prepaid if you don't use the funds by the exp date or you'll need to add more funds to push the exp date again
Let's say you're on the $300 annual plan that started in Sept 2023 -- your next $300 payment is due in Sept 2024
If you buy 6x $50 cards and redeem all 6 to your account right now then the $300 balance will exp in 90 days (July 2024) so you'll lose your funds before the Sept 2024 renewal
You could wait until July to redeem them so 90-day exp date is Oct 2024 which is past your Sept 2024 renewal date (funds will be used by then) -- another option would be to redeem 5 cards so $250 exp in July then add the 6th card before the July exp date so entire $300 gets pushed to Oct 2024 exp date (if you forget then you lose your $250 so its safer to just hold it until July then redeem all 6)

This is not true. This is my 4th year of account renewal. In 2020, 2021, and 2022, I loaded $300 in prepaid credit at the beginning of those years. No expiry. The funds just get used up. In 2023, I loaded $100, and then 10 months later (yesterday) loaded $200. The $100 did not expire. The reason why it doesn't is because the account gets charged (i.e. the credit balance on my account gets deducted monthly), which resets this "expiry" timer. I also called ATT Wireless cust support to confirm that my credits won't expire back in 2021 (my first account renewal).

I think I follow. I think you're saying that for a prepaid plan, e.g. $300/yr, if you load $400, you will have a $100 balance at the end of one year that will expire unless you load, say, $1. Then in that case, you should load $1 or $5 and use up the remaining balance while you decide on whatever new plan you go with.
But I've prepaid a year of service 6 months in advance, and didn't have a credit balance expiry. Before loading the rep told me the account balance resets with each month as each month $25 is charged against the $300 prepay. Wonder what is the difference here.

You must be the only one that has an account with no exp date
$100 card gives you 1yr exp date -- $50 card gives you 90 days
I loaded 3x $100 in Nov 2023 and my account balance has Nov 2024 exp date -- my renewal is in June so it'll get used up by then:
Your Plan Amount $300.00
Total Charges $300.00 Current Balance ( Expires on Nov 29, 2024 ) $300.00
Payment ( Due Jun 12, 2024 ) $0.00
$300 plan is only charged upfront in full -- the monthly data reset cycle doesn't reset the exp date for account balance since you're not adding any new funds

Yep, after loading $300 yesterday my account says:
Current Balance ( Expires on Jul 29, 2024 )$300.00
It said the same (Expires on Jul 29, 2023) last year when I loaded $300. But the balance doesn't become $0 on Jul 30.
The data reset doesn't affect account billing, that's correct. But monthly charges against an existing credit balance does, and that's why preloading $300 for a year does not cause expiration. During 2021 I had an existing balance remaining for the rest of the 12 mo 2021 term. I reloaded another $300 in 2021, prepaying ahead of time my 2022 year of service because of a Kroger deal. That balance did not expire, it simply was charged against for the 2022 year of service.

FYI for AT&T if you buy multiple cards and don't apply them to your account, then they do not expire. When you do apply them, the balance expires as follows (from AT&T site):
"An unused Prepaid card doesn't have an expiration date. If you apply it to your account, the payment amount expires as follows: $10 to $24 expires in 30 days, $25 to $99 expires in 90 days, and $100 or more expires in 1 year."
What I've not figured out though is whether applying multiple $50 cards would count as balance of $100 or not. I usually just keep them and apply as needed.
ATT tracks each prepaid card expiration separately.
