edit: Letters from Iwo Jima and Mystic River were in that cheap Clint Eastwood bundle recently. Good deal, regardless.
Also, looks like copies of The Departed are in the process of getting updated to 4K, judging from a Reddit thread, as that version was just released a few days ago.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but my understanding is if it is available in 4k when you redeem in iTunes, it will redeem as 4k and port to MA as such, but if it isn't 4k at redemption it will redeem and port as HD, and when iTunes upgrades it you'll only be 4k on iTunes and HD in MA.
A prime example is Oceans 11. The 4K disc is being released just a few days from now on 4/30. Sure enough, online catalogs will update the digital HD edition to 4K soon after. I can't imagine Fanflix is going to offer a free upgrade. Will Apple?
Apple usually upgrades HD to UHD unless they would list it as a separate version.
Wonder if a disconnect / reconnect on Movies Anywhere would resolve that if the purchase came from iTunes and it re-queries the iTunes database and the movie is now 4k. Anyone know?

However, the 4K will only apply in your Apple iTunes library. So if you try to watch movies else where (ex: VUDU/Microsoft Store, Movies Anywhere, etc.) they will still show up as the original format that you've originally purchased it for.
Typically, try to wait for 4K version/format, so you'll get it across your entire libraries. However, they're times that its unavoidable due to the nature/future release of 4K. Buying in HD format is best practice if you know that particular film won't get a 4K future release.
Hope that helps answer your question, or at least in the right direction!
