Great post, for those that are planning to upgrade the NVME drive and don't want to purchase a Suzy Q cable, you can also just unplug the battery while you have the cover off. With the battery unplugged, the Google CR50 chip will be disabled and you will be able to use mrchromebox firmware utility scripts to reflash the device.
The screen alone is worth like $100. Great deal.

Paid $219 after CA tax a couple of days ago,was listed at $209. Going to ask for a price match.

Anyone have a screenshot of this at $172.89 / $189.99?

edit: Seller said would have to return and repurchase. Not worth the time for $21 difference.

A meal cost nearly that here in CA now.
Laptop better look new though.

Slickdeals saves everyone here more than that in a month.

Will a USB-C to HDMI cable work to watch YouTube, etc. on a TV? I was thinking about buying this to use in hotels while I travel, as well as web browsing.

Yes, but it might be nicer to do it wirelessly with something like a chromecast.

It's a locked-in encrypted bootloader, so unless they let you in or you can mod the BIOS physically or by overriding the chip with a programmer there's not a whole lot to do there unfortunately
I reflashed mine fairly easily last week, booting Debian 12 now. Do some reading on mrchromebox.tech. I used Suzy Q cable to unlock write protection in spi flash chip, but you can also do it fairly easily by just putting Chromebook into developer mode and then boot with battery unplugged from motherboard.
Wow! That's really possible? Putting arch + hyptland + waybar on it, then we have a cheap and perfect laptop.

Well, there's quite a lot of information on that site. I wish there were some AI reading that site then tell me exact what to do (step by step) to install Linux on this machine.

It is not possible to price match it seems. The seller says I must return the item and repurchase at the new price. Seems inconvenient but $10 is $10 so I am sending it back

This is why selling on eBay is a hassle. Your time boxing it back up and shipping out isn't worth $10?

One could argue the same for the seller - the hassle of accepting a return and shipping another, especially if they have to then resell the now used return and pay return shipping - though it would be on the buyer to pay return shipping in the instance wouldn't it?

Personally I'm too lazy to return it for $10 lol you win some, lose some.

Edit: price is now $199.99

better hope your package isn't lost or damaged on the return, you'll be out more than $10...
Find a different way to save $10 and call it good.

I agree with this sentiment but the seller must surely have the ability to do a partial refund on their side to save both parties headaches, right?

Feels like a hassle for both parties to have someone ship it back and restock it as seller refurbished

I sent a message asking the seller that exact question. It would cost the buyer and seller money plus time for the return. Partial refund saves everyone both.

Yes, the seller can do a partial refund, but they aren't required to. I would worry about getting a unit in worse condition. I bought one back in February for $219 from this seller and the trackpad has some noticeable wear areas in certain light, and the top cover has a sheet of textured contact paper cut to fit to likely conceal damage.

I didn't notice the trackpad until I started messing with the laptop in different light. It's 100% functional and the screen is perfect, so no real complaints here.

Thanks all for cluing me in that W11 can be installed on this! Cool

Killer deal for the specs and I'm glad I impulse bought this. Daughter is gonna love having her own laptop to dork around on now. So far all in I'm at $201.38 ($187.62 chromebook, $13.76 SuzyQ adapter).

I had installed Windows back in the day on my OG Acer 14 (CB3-431-C5FM), but good god that was almost painstakingly slow with that 1,180 CPU Mark Intel Celeron N3160. Gave it to my niece for her bday a few years ago though and she was beyond ecstatic to finally have her own laptop.

According to: https://mrchromebox.tech/ looks like the stock emmc drive might now be visible and accept a W11 install? Scratchhead

I'd rather not crack open this laptop, seems it's prone to breaking clips on the shell. My Lenovo should arrive tonight and my SuzyQable this Saturday so I'll try to install W11 on the stock emmc and report back how it goes.

Shout out to https://docs.chrultrabook.com/ They have concise easy to follow steps on what all has to occur to get W11 (or Linux) on this machine. I am curious though, the SuzyQ cable, both ends connect to the Lenovo's USB ports?

Also, I can't seem to find that list of NVMEs that are compatible with this laptop. Anyone got a link?

-edit, is this the list? What's listed on Lenovo's site that comes with the i5 version? https://www.reddit.com/r/chromeos...c_storage/
