When a refurbished drive has low hours it's because the SMART data got reset during the refurbishment process.

They're still great deals. You're getting the remaining useful life on a drive made to run for a long time at high data rates. And, you can buy double the disks vs new ones, so you can setup your backup even easier.
Might as well use the most recently published stats...

https://www.backblaze.com/blog/ba...-for-2023/

TLDR; avoid Seagate 12tb and 14tb. 16tb drives so far look very good (X18). No published data yet on X24.
This should be boilerplate on any Server Part Deals post.

The year and capacity have been going hand in hand for a few years.

FYI, goHardDrive also has the X20 model, same capacity, for the same price. 5 year-warranty VS 2 year of ServerPartDeals https://www.ebay.com/itm/176351920242
As mentioned before, they are not the same drives though.
Transfer speeds and Mean Time Between Failures seem to be the same, but the newer model (x24) has 2x the Cache.

Correct, but my understanding is that for those who are looking to use these in a NAS, it shouldn't make much of a difference

You might be right. If that's the case, the additional warranty might be worth it on the older model.

ive had enough seacrap die on me to where ill go for the 5yr over 3 ..

That's generally been the case for me too but right this second I'm replacing a dying WD Red and using an even older Seagate NAS drive to facilitate some file transfers. Both have over 7 years of power on time so they've done their duty. I trust nothing but my cloud backup. Ordered the X20 and just received a WD Gold, will update everyone with comparison in 5-7 years.

These things are super loud, I don't recommend them for home use. I can hear them through a wall in another room

Would these be good for video on a Plex server?

Thinking of replacing my WD RED and Hitachi 4TB from many years ago for my home NAS with these, I find the noise is minimal and acceptable for 6 drives (mix of 5400 and 7200 rpm). Now I have second thoughts about these "noise". Is it due to the "enterprise" model? What do u rec for home?

Is it possible to buy an extended warranty via third party? I see that as an option sometimes through some ebay listings but not sure if that would apply here.
You can buy a warranty through someone like SquareTrade on literally anything, no matter where you purchased it.

I'm at 7 total now from this company. Acquired over the last 3 years.
They are using in a PC primarily for Plex, home media, and backup game storage. Absolutely no issues at all with any drive so far.

Excellent. So far I purchased 6 18tb wd ultrastar drives, over a period of 6 months and all seem to work fine.

On a special note : They use to sell drives without adding tax, but now have started to add tax to the purchase amount.

The employee on chat told be that they have reached a certain limit and cannot sell products tax free anymore.
