I believe the best conversion method now involves letting your GamePass Ultimate run out.
It seems the 3 month Xbox GamePass Core codes now only redeem for 1 month of GamePass Ultimate if you have an active Ultimate subscription (Used to be 3 months = 50 days). So the current rates for the 3 month Core passes make it not as good of a deal if you currently have GamePass Ultimate.
If you DON'T have GamePass Ultimate, it seems it would cheaper to go the route of redeeming 3 years worth of GamePass Core codes, then pay for one month of GamePass Ultimate, and the 3 years of Core will convert to 2 years of Ultimate.
This seems to be the current rates based off more recent posts on the subject around the web. I have not tested it myself, so info could be wrong. When CDKeys, Eneba, etc offer discounts on the codes, then it might be cheaper to convert the 3 months of Core into 1 month of GamePass Ultimate.
Why would you opt for this over the conversion deals?
They aren't removed from your account, you just lose access to them until you reactivate your subscription.

Bought this on Monday, still waiting for my key from woot. I know it said it could take a few days but damn, Amazon could've mailed me a physical card and I'd have it already!
What is the trial part you mentioned? I've never paid for any form of GP, so I see that a 14 day Ultimate trial costs $1 - is that what you mean?
yep, you can use that, if you dont have the option, just choose a one month option. I checked the price of the india xbox 6 month game pass core and it had gone up from 12.60 to 15.60 earlier today. Still a great deal. Once its converted, just turn off reoccurring billing, so that wont start automatically charging you after the two years expire. You can keep it on if you want.
I just got 6 months core from eneba (need an India VPN to redeem) for 12.60 each this past Sunday. Maxed out my Gold for 75 bucks and used a Ultimate trial to activate it for 2 years Ultimate, if you dont have a trial, just pay the 16.99 and cancel the recurring so you can do it again in two years. I bought two more years of core, just to save the keys at that price.
You better cross your fingers and toes that those keys still work in a couple years when you use them. Grey market keys are notorious for being leaked and not usable late, even from the better resellers.
If they don't work even several months from now, you arent going to have a way to recover money spent.

Good luck with them
I went ahead and used three of the 6 months to add 360 days, to make it three years GPU. I was able to use some four GP Core 3 month (8.75 each) codes I purchased last may from Eneba, codes still worked a year later. I think it depends on the seller. Game Pass Core time will convert to Game Pass Ultimate time at a ratio of 3:2 and be rounded up to the next full day. For example, 90 days of Game Pass Core time will convert to 60 days of Game Pass Ultimate time
keep an eye out for eneba or cdkeys deals for the 3 month cards, set up a deals alert for xbox 3 month cdkeys, IMO.... they do come up every so often and you end up getting a year of gamepass for like 30 bucks or so.....
You can get a month for under $7 at Eneba right now. The catch is that you have to let your current sub run out before you can put on the code. That's what I do.

Don't try to save keys from eneba. Use them right away or don't buy them, I can almost guarantee those will be activated when you try them.

I have 3yr of the Core passes that I've been saving for the summer sitting in my inbox right now. Is the idea to activate those first, then buy one of these 1 month or 3 months cards and then add it on top to get the Ultimate conversion? thanks!
edit: I don't have any active subscription rn. I did get on the trial when I first bought the Xbox.

This is the way to do it. If you don't have an active subscription you can load in 3x 12 months basic subscription codes (I bought them at Sam's and Costco since cdkeys didn't have a better deal at the time - I missed out on the really cheap deals there). Then you add a 1 month ultimate code and accept the conversion. You will end up with 2 years (3:2 conversion) plus 1 month of ultimate. You can also use other durations but you can never have more than 36 month in your account so if you load a one month basic and then try to load 3 12 month codes it won't let you add the last one. You can use longer or shorter ultimate codes to kick off the conversion since you won't end up with more than 3 years post conversion. Prior to doing this I had used individual one month ultimate codes from cdkeys for a few bucks each and added a new one once the sub had expired. If you have multiple people using your Xbox make sure to understand who should sign up for the subscription (only one user needs it). You can only cloud game with the user that has the subscription, but anyone on his main xbox can use it locally and the subscribing user can use it on other Xboxes as well but no other users on the other Xboxes can.

Thanks - my Ultimate just ran out from the last multi-year conversion. I will give it a shot.

Yes. Once you are ready, redeem all your saved codes, up to 3 years worth.
Next, enter in your code for GPU or buy a month direct from MS, this will convert your 3 years of core into 2 years of ultimate.
