How many months/years of waiting is worth $9.95 to you?

This just got released last year, I believe. You might be thinking of the regular Baratza Encore (no espresso settings) which retails at 150 usd.

Gr8 grinder. Been using mine for 4+ years with no issues. This thing is a work horse. Buy one, lasts a life time or at least a long time lol

The Turin DF54 seems to be getting all the hype lately for $200ish espresso grinders, but it hasn't been rigorously tested like the Encore and the product support is an open question. Apparently they're rebranded Chinesium grinders which makes me wonder if build quality issues will show up later on. Decided to go with the ESP for the sale, and larger community of support.

i resisted yesterday's sur la table deal for 162, but felt that i had to bite at 159 given it was on amazon with their service/return policy (even though i know it may go lower at black friday). even though the title says amazon warehouse, mine was sold by amazon, new (i'm pretty sure), and at the 159.95 price. i'm hoping this will better grind decaf beans into espresso than our capresso infinity. thanks for the post
It better! People love to say the Infinity produces inferior swill and that this is the minimum quality level if you drink espresso.

I have this grinder. Very satisfied with it so far. I'm still an espresso noob but as far as I can tell it gets the grinds plenty fine enough. It's also relatively easy to clean.

It's not just the community: with Baratza, you also get a company that actually stands behind their product and wants you to be able to repair your machine, unlike where most US companies have pivoted to planned obsolecence. Baratza actually have videos on maintenance/repair, and you can buy all the parts direct as a regular consumer. For the Encore, they even put out videos on how to DIY upgrade it to better burrs.

I'm really interested in the DF54, but it's pretty apparent that the "Turin" branding is just reseller (Espesso Outlet) labeling, to try to make it sound vaguely Italian (which is silly, it would at least be called "Torino" if that was really the case). You can find plenty of DF40, DF64 on aliexpress, under various branding.

The support related reviews for the Turin brand on their own site (Espresso Outlet) are abyssmal. Some of them sound like a case of not knowing how to calibrate/etc, but equally… why wouldn't even just the reseller at least be able to manage telling people how to do that? There's videos on aliexpress about it for the df40, for instance. That's… scary bad levels of support. Multiple reviews claim the ionizer doesn't work at all. Some of the aliexpress vendors for df line grinders say you might get one unit or the other depending on stock, and makes you wonder if people are even getting what's claimed with these US df resellers.

So yeah… personally I'd wait out the DF stuff for a bit longer and see how it pans out. There's already another US reseller for the DF54. Then probably just order directly from China once it's available through one of the big aliexpress sellers. Meanwhile this deal here is a great price for a Baratza ESP. If I didn't already have two Encores with one modded, I'd probably just snag one now. I'm still tempted lol. Must… resist D:

nice post, yeah I figure if the DF54 stands the test of time I can always sell the ESP to recoup some cost. but if the hype is real and it's truly a game changer, I would also expect the big boys to follow suit and release something comparable in a similar price range.

Refurbished for a lot less

Oops, sold out. It will probably be back at this price in the future. Or go for a refurb virtuoso +, which is amazing.

That's the original encore, not the ESP version for espresso. It's also out of stock.

I am not going to suggest that this is not a great grinder. It is great. However, if you're looking for a solid grinder at about 1/3 the cost, this works great.

I've had mine for almost 8 years and paid $129. Still a daily workhorse for me, but may consider changing out the burrs eventually. Don't know too much about when I should do that.

EDIT: I have the original one, not the ESP.
I just switched mine out late last year after ~10 years of daily use. Opted for the nicer burr set (the one used in the Virtuoso) because it's faster and a little more precise on the finer end. I love that this company sells every single part for the machine and at a decent price.

It was a little bit of a pain to replace even with all the instruction videos online, and I'm not 100 percent sure I did it correctly because it makes a high-pitched whine that makes me think I didn't tighten something or missed a washer somewhere, but it is a lot faster and the grind is a lot more consistent. I use it for drip, press, and cold brew plus the occasional espresso so it gets a lot of work across the range of settings.

$160 is a great deal. I was debating whether to go with Baratza Encore or Fellow Opus.

I think Baratza Encore ESP looks kinda cheap because it is all plastic, but the reviews say it can produce espresso and filter coffee. also they are well know for great customer service and easy to repair.

is this as messy as some of the reviews say? i don't have much counter space so i like that this model looks slimmer, but also need something that isn't so messy.
