This one was released a month or so ago and getting great reviews. Been eying one for myself for several weeks and this made me pull the trigger. Wasn't able to get coupons working with it, but CB sites seem to work.

Grain and Rice Cooker
The KitchenAid® Grain and Rice Cooker features innovation that takes care of the measuring and monitoring for you, with 21 presets for grains, rice and beans. With an integrated scale and water tank that work together, the cooker automatically senses the amount of grains, rice or beans you've added and then it dispenses the right amount of water to match the ideal water-to-grain ratio for what you are cooking.

What's in the box
Model KGC3155 Includes
  • (1) Grain and Rice Cooker
  • (1) Non-stick ceramic pot
  • (1) Steam basket
Same price on Amazon [amazon.com]

Same as any rice cooker, you can rinse the rice prior to cooking.

Oh man, just bought a cuckoo rice cooker maybe two months ago, it does work really well, but this looks nicer.

Get a Japanese zojirushi or a Taiwanese Ta-Tung and be done with it. Either lasts for decades.

You made a wise choice. This thing is nonsense.

I have this. I wouldn't buy it over a nice dedicated rice cooker, but the bean cooking is pretty nice.

If you want to pre-soak your beans, though, you must do it through the machine. So it's a bit more convoluted than I'd prefer. I wish you could manually pre-soak overnight and just have the machine give you the option to weigh and cook the soaked beans. But it only allows that if you go through the machine's pre-soaking process.

This is for people who consider Chipotle to be authentic Mexican food.

Stick with a Cuckoo rice cooker. You can get a Cuckoo pressure rice cooker for similar price as this one that's on "sale". Much better steamed rice than this playskool cooker.

Kitchenaid is good for large appliances and mixers, not for this application.

Cuckoo or zojirushi will last you significantly longer than this will. Roughly the same cost also.

It's hard to screw up rice. Properly cooked rice is properly cooked rice.

A dedicated rice cooker is simpler to clean up and is going to last much longer. There's no point in making exaggerated claims about how this can't cook one of the simplest things on earth.

There's a big difference in quality for rice cookers. Micom rice cookers aren't expensive and they get fairly close to a higher end model, but the pressure cooking and induction heat cookers get consistent and excellent quality that's better.

Maybe.
If the old brands are always better then Nokia would still be around.

This is just a general question not related to this product. With a rice cooker that offers a scheduled timer, can I pre-rinse rice, leave it in the pot with the appropriate amount of water, and have the rice be cooked 8+ hours later? Not sure how it will impact the quality of the rice with it soaking in water for that long of a time.
