I have this version and commented in another thread. This thing makes incredible espresso! There's a big learning curve and you need a bunch of gadgets to get it right. My coffee is multiples better than what I get from around the corner at the chains and even local spots. If you aren't getting a 2:1 ratio, you are messing up

Agreed. I have this and for the price its fantastic.

I dont think the learning curve is that bad TBH.

But a digital scale that goes to .1 grams is definitely necessary!

Bought one of these about 2 months ago for the same price.

This is the first espresso machine I've ever had, and I love it. I'm just a normal person who likes coffee - I definitely don't have a refined coffee palate, and I haven't tested a bunch of other machines, but I can say that the cappuccinos that I make for my wife and myself every morning taste just as good as (if not better than) what we've gotten at nice restaurants or fancy coffee shops.

If this is your first espresso machine, I don't think you can go wrong. Sure, you can probably get some "better" equipment if you get a separate grinder and espresso machine. But unless you are an absolute coffee connoisseur, you probably won't be able to tell the difference.

Also the blue color on the Barista Pro looks really nice.

The unit in OP is pretty good, no doubt about it. But... do check your local Marshalls, TJ Max or Home Goods.


I've seen these machines for $500 or under (when on clearance) in at least 2 or 3 Marshalls and Home Goods stores. There are 1,204 Marshalls stores and 923 Home goods in the United States as of March 06, 2024.

This post will probably get TD to oblivion but 36% price difference still makes it worthwhile to mention.

There is nothing wrong with this setup but the Breville grinder leaves a lot to be desired. I would definitely recommend more of a standalone espresso machine + grinder (separate machines) so if you get really into it like me you can upgrade one or the other without having to replace both. I have a Lelit Bianca + DF83V, but if I was to recommend something in this price range it would definitely be the Turin Legato paired with the DF54. I think the results will be far superior, especially with a flat burr grinder that good.

I have one also for almost a decade, used daily.

I suggest to experiment with different brands of coffee like Passalacqua, Segafredo, Danesi, Mauro, Illy...

It must be luck of the draw. I just got off the phone with Breville customer support. She placed the order for the barista pro and the barista tool kit and emailed me the links to provide the payment for each, the toolkit was free-ish at $4.99 shipping & handling + 0.37 tax= $5.36 which I was fine with paying as opposed to the $200 for the kit otherwise. She said today is the last day they are honoring the tool kit. When I called all I told her was that I was in the process of ordering the Barista Pro and had it in my cart but wasn't sure how to add the complementary tool kit. Both orders are showing up on my Breville account now.

I've owned this machine for 18 months and make 2 or more lattes per day. It's a workhorse and if you use Pavliv water you don't even need to descale it.

If you want to learn to use it there are countless YouTube videos. It takes me no time at all.

You can turn the grinder into an almost zero retention grinder with cheap parts from Etsy or Ali express.

I do recommend a bottomless porto filter, a dosing funnel to clip onto that portofilter, and a tamper/distributor combo.

And if you want the best espresso you've ever had, and I've put more than 60 varieties through this machine, the ONLY beans I use now are the Asia variety from Roger at OldVillageRoastery in Pennsylvania, where he roasts them by hand over an open flame.

I have one of these. Used the built-in grinder for a few months and then went with a standalone one. My shots weren't too consistent using the built-in and dialing in took way longer than with a standalone grinder. IMO, I'd go with a more simple espresso machine and put the cost difference into a decent grinder

I'd suggest avoiding ALL those brands and getting from your local roaster for a MUCH improved experience.
or, boca java roasts and you get it in a few days, probably better than retail outlets with whole beans
