There is no story. There are only so many different missions which you basically keep doing to unlock gear, etc.. You can't play the game only on lower levels in order to unlock everything, there is stuff locked behind some stuff that can only be obtained in lvl 7+ difficulty.
Sounds counterintuitive, but I find difficulty 7 easier and much more enjoyable than 6. 8 and 9 are just chaos and there's no avoiding it.

It is pretty much the exact same game as deep rock galactic. Slightly more gunplay focused and less ability focused, however. If possible, try both and pick which one you like more. Having both feels redundant.
When I first joined as level 1 game 1 I got tk at extraction when going quick play, I so confused. since then then I mostly play with friends and it's been fun to chat about it in real life. now at 14 I generally hold my own when playing with random. the secret is when you get to level 5 you unlock the shotgun, it makes game easier
Came here to say this. I think I got it at $33. It'll be a deal once it gets to the $20s. But also keep in mind cdkeys doesn't charge tax.
