just received updated unlock policy today:

Unlocking Policy
Unlocking a cellphone associated with one of TracFone's brands refers to disabling software that would otherwise prevent you from activating the cellphone on another carrier's network. However, due to different carrier technologies, an unlocked TracFone cellphone may not work, or may experience limited functionality, on another carrier's network. TracFone is not responsible for any limitations of service, or otherwise, resulting from the use of an unlocked cellphone on another provider's network. Non-TracFone branded cellphones using TracFone service (BYOP) are not unlockable by TracFone.

For instructions on how to unlock your personal T-Mobile or AT&T cellphone, go to our website's main FAQ page. Then, go to Policies and Procedures/Unlocking Policy.

For customers with cellphones capable of remote unlocking (this includes most iPhones and some Android cellphones):

TracFone will remotely unlock the phone when it becomes eligible for unlocking, provided it meets the following conditions:

The cellphone must be in working condition.
The cellphone has not been reported stolen or lost, and there are no indicators of fraud.
For all cellphones activated with TracFone prior to November 23, 2021 on any carrier network, the cellphone will be remotely unlocked upon customer request after twelve (12) months of active TracFone service.
For all cellphones activated with TracFone on the T-Mobile or AT&T networks on or after November 23, 2021, the cellphone will be remotely unlocked upon customer request after twelve (12) months of active TracFone service.
For all cellphones activated with new TracFone service on the Verizon network on or after November 23, 2021, the cellphone will be remotely unlocked automatically, sixty (60) days after activation.

For customers with cellphones NOT capable of remote unlocking (this includes most Android cellphones for TracFone brands purchased prior to June of 2023):

TracFone will provide an unlocking code or codes to customers who request unlocking, provided the cellphones meet the following conditions:

The cellphone must be in working condition.
The cellphone has not been reported stolen or lost, and there are no indicators of fraud.
For cellphones activated with TracFone prior to November 23, 2021 on any carrier network, the cellphone must have been active with TracFone Service for no fewer than twelve (12) months.
For cellphones activated with TracFone on the T-Mobile or AT&T networks on or after November 23, 2021, the cellphone must have been active with TracFone Service for no fewer than twelve (12) months.
For cellphones activated with new service on the Verizon network on or after November 23, 2021, at least sixty (60) days must have elapsed since the cellphone was activated. For any active cellphones, notification of the phone's unlock eligibility will be sent via SMS along with a link to the website where the unlock process can be accessed.
If you have not met the required minimum period of active TracFone Service, TracFone may unlock your cellphone, but you will incur a charge of up to $300, depending on how long your service was active prior to the unlocking request.

TracFone may refuse any unlocking request that would result in an abuse of its Unlocking Policy or is part of an effort to defraud TracFone or its customers. TracFone's Unlocking Policy is subject to change at any time without advance notice.

Unlocking Policy for Deployed Military Personnel:
If you are a TracFone customer in the military and receive relocation orders outside of the TracFone Coverage Area, we will unlock your cellphone at your request, even during the applicable lock period following the activation of your cellphone.

Customers who would like to check if they are eligible or submit an unlocking request can do so online below or by calling 1-888-442-5102.

I was able to port one line...when i try the second line with the IMEI number for 2nd device, I get an error: The information you entered belongs to a device from a different account. The device must first be removed before adding it to this account. Any idea what could this be?

Are you trying to use an (unlocked) phone IMEI that was originally activated on a TbyV/TF/ST account ?
They keep IMEI's in the system for a while, even after unlocking & deactivating. I had to have one of mine rebranded by support before it could be reactivated on different TF brand (from ST to TF 2 months after it was unlocked&cancelled).

So we can't keep the phone sealed in the box for the automatic unlock? Does it have to be turned on with the sim card inserted? I bought it just to resell/trade-in. Sorry if this is a repeated question😅

Just did this deal. Got 2 lines and 2 phones for $192 incl. tax. Didn't care about the ID etc since tmobile breach already gave it all away lol.

Did not have to pay for GV port out.
Used Amex Offer 10% off wireless up to $30 (get $19.20 back).

Once the phones are unlocked, I will request my personal data to be removed.

received the phone today. Went on TbV website and activated with GV number (account number and pin, address the Mountain View address, additional call back number). Within 5 mins, I got a call from TbV and they told all is set for the porting and they got confirmation from GV for the same. They told port will be completed max by 5/10 2 PM ET and told to make a call/text after that time.
Waiting for email from GV to may be insert the SIM and try calling/texting.
lmao, they must be calling us all, same exact time

Not wanting to port away the GV number that I've had for years and use frequently, I guess I'll create a new gmail account and get a new GV number to port away from there.

Anyone done something similar? (new Google account AND new GV #) Any added delays or is everything on the Google side pretty much doable right away? I guess we do have a few days while waiting for the phone to be delivered anyway (giving the Google/GV setup time to "settle" if needed)?

It didn't work with my Tello number, the verification texts from Total would never arrive. I ended up using a Google voice number which costs $3 to enable porting.

Why do you think that would work?
