FYI: this uses Chinese-developed NAND that the US placed import restrictions on.
If you look at the support website for the NM790, you'll see "Due to US government restrictions, the download is temporarily unavailable."

So: no firmware updates and no ability to track the health and metrics of the drive.
Does that matter to you?

Damn, very tempting to put into my PS5 so I can move my 4TB SN850x into my PC.

got this nm790 4tb, albeit the non heat sink version, for my rog ally and 2022 g14, working very well so far no issues at pcie4 speed. do really wish the supply / demand from the supply chains didn't force the price hike compared to that time tho (got it for under 200 at the all time low then). At it stands now, this is a decent price for this reliable nvme compared to the alternatives/market.

It will fit in a PC if you can clear the heatsink.

Prices won't go up. The prices are determined by the market, and as long as the market is expecting they'll go down further, they will keep going down.

I don't know how much it will impact performance but PS5 doesn't support HMB.

It's fine for a gaming PC, as a game drive. I'd prefer something else as a boot drive, but it would be fine for that too if it's a budget build or a slightly older machine.

I own Optane and w/dram drives from years ago, but newer controllers and dram-less drives have gotten better lately.

Was around 175 last BF/CM

Now usually around 250 even without heat sink
