I would say hold the line, cause this is not worth it over the one thats reguarily $1000 on sale or cheaper. The CPU between the two are identical the only improvement is that this one has DDR5 vs DDR4 but thats not really worth the $150 premium, neither is the processor.
The crappy screen is not worth it. That screen is outdated completely. If you are connecting it to an external monitor or tv, it's fine. But for a laptop use, it's doesn't do it.

If I were to guess, it's 1080p and the 4070 could easily drive a 1440p display. 300-nits brightness isn't anything to write home about and 144Hz is better than 60Hz but could be better for 1080p paired with 4070.

Yes, it could have been better but most of the budget 4070 laptops use 1080p panel for cutting cost. This display is 300 nits, covers 100% sRGB and has G-Sync and far from crappy or unusable as claimed by that guy. I think he was just throwing some terms picked up from here and there, like 16:9 is bad, 1080p is unusable etc., without actually having any actual understanding.
Bought 2 in the past for my kids to beat on 11 and 7. They play Fortnite, Spiderman Miles Morales and other similar games without a hitch. Cost is next to nothing, so when it breaks, I'll just replace it. Highly recommended. Maybe you should repaste or clean the heat sink because it runs perfectly for them.
Also, for the ones bitching about the screen.. again no issues there. Smooth, has good color, contrast and detail. 1080p over higher rez is a plus as they get good frames in pretty much every game they play.

Cuz it is not 1000nits…and 2k. Its a 1k laptop not 1.5 or 2k….
Mine performs great, I use it connected to my computer monitor (4k monitor 165hz) and have zero issues.
