While the GM7000 shares a controller that has had severe issues causing data loss and failures with other manufacturers, Acer has not had those issues. The issues were corrected with a firmware update, suggesting Acer's firmware corrected the issue before it was released.
While the drive is generally just as fast as many other drives in it's category, it has high idle power consumption and is not recommended for laptops.
You will likely need a better heatsink than the adhesive-backed one they include, and you will need to carefully peel off said heatsink to install the new heatsink. It will throttle during moderate to heavy usage otherwise.
It works well in the PS5 with a better heatsink.
It does have a slightly higher than average failure rate compared to more popular drives, and the RMA process can be frustrating.
Overall it's a great drive with minor issues.

I had forgotten about them for about a decade until last year, was glad to see they were still in business. Both the GPU I purchased last year and my more recent order of these drives incurred the same lack of sales tax, which is always a pleasant surprise
Nice! Thank you for sharing
Samsung is generally more reliable, but they've had serious issues with other drives immediately after release, so keep that in mind with this new drive.
The 990 Evo idle power consumption is only slightly lower than the GM7000, so neither would be good for a laptop.
Performance-wise, you probably won't notice a difference between the two in most tasks.
Given all that, the 990 Evo is a DRAMless drive (HMB), so I would lean heavily towards the GM7000 for your OS drive.

Shows sales tax for me. I'm in Pa.
Ahh, bummer. I'm in FL, no idea why it's been working out for me, then. This is the only store in recent memory that I recall seeing it happen
