if you don't need 10gbe, tp-link has 2.5g 5 port unmanaged switch that you can get for about $50 on aliexpress. they are priced for the chinese market for about $40, but there are resellers.

they also have one with 5 2.5gbe plus one sfp+ 10g managed switch that you can get for $75, which i have one; only issue is that the web GUI has no english so most ppl here will need google translate or so. (and there's also a poe variant for about $100)

Non-Pro Macs can be built to order with (only) RJ45 10GbE. Lot of NASes with 10GbE RJ45, too. Have both in my case, and no need for fiber.

Thanks for that, I didn't bother checking since they won't ship to my state. Added to OP.

Nice. I was considering the previous deal on the SFP+ version and getting some transceivers, so glad I waited! QNAP switches and NASes have served me well.

To get 10Gb, you need CAT6 less than 150 ft

I like the sfp version. No need for Transceiver as most if not all 10 gbe cards are sfp. If you want to do rj45 then you need Transceiver. And if you want to go fiber then you can get transceiever for really cheap. I don't see the use of rj45 on 10gbe devices.

Each of the SFP+ ones need at least a couple $30+ adaptor the costs add up. I ended up getting a few switch like these when I upgraded my home to 10gbps . Plus the sfp adaptors also get a lot hot.

You run your 10gbe on rj45? Also you buy your 10gbe NIC card with rj45? Real question because I don't see a lot of people doing it like that

The only hiccup is with interfacing with 2.5 or 5G such as on fiber-modems and a few other devices. The plethora of cheap SFP and trancievers on the market often only support 1 or 10G speeds. I wish they just skipped the 2.5 and 5G, since the 10G was already ubiquitous and cheap.

Yes and yes, I only have a few systems that have 10gbe right now, so it works fine. The backhaul is 10gbe with switches like these ones.
