If you planning to play on the steam deck I would say that the squadrons game is not great as a handheld game.
I'd disagree (not saying your opinion is wrong BTW). I just finished it via the Steam Deck and it was fantastic. Ran great, wonderful controls (especially with gyro), no complaints from me.

What didn't you like about it on the Deck?
I agree. We had a group play it and it was a blast. The single player is meh, but the multi (even with randoms) was a ton of fun.
It has been out for awhile so that may no longer hold true.
VR on the PSVR was incredible as well...something about turning your head to find an enemy and quickly spinning is just satisfying as hell.
The problem is that I've bought every $2 widget that has been posted. Now I have only $2 left to my name. Do I get this with my last $2, or wait for something else to show up?
it's not just about the money. There is just something soul crushing about paying any amount for an item and then seeing the same item was available somewhere else for significantly less. It's just about "winning" and "losing" in the marketplace game.

I hope one day to revisit on VR. I no longer have a PSVR but plan to pick up something for Windows if I come across a great deal. I did play Squadrons for a few levels on my 34" ultra wide curved monitor and that was pretty neat too. I just sucked at the K&M controls.

Wow you are playing a different game altogether, must be fun way to do stuff.

I was a wing commander junky as a kid but the gameplay here never became very fun for me
