I like EV's a lot (currently own 2)… rented a Polestar 2 for a week while traveling and really hated it. Felt super small inside and did not make good use of the interior space like most other EV's do. We had heard good things about Polestars and were surprised how much we didn't like it. It was such a treat to return home to our Bolt EUV.

Yes, it is an amazing deal based on the MSRP but the insurance quote is based on the MSRP too.

There is no way you charged from 20% to 80% in 25 min at a 50 Khw charger.

Curious - have you driven a Tesla?
I wrote that very late last night. What I meant to write was that during our trip, we mostly charged twice daily for 25-30 mins during lunch/coffee breaks at different charging stations as low as 50Kwh going up to the 200 Kwh ones and never felt range anxiety.

Yes, I did test drive a Model Y pre-pandemic and that didn't convince me to ditch my german sedan, which is still going strong at 110k miles and drives buttery smooth. I'm not saying that Teslas are bad but most owners probably moved up from the non-luxury segment and feel that's the best vehicle in the world though they mostly charge at home and save on gas bills especially in the west coast which has the highest gas prices in the country.

Absolutely loved my polestar on a UK vacation! Drove roughly 1200km and the only complaint was the slow chargers where I was. Outside of that, It was my first EV experience, and those 2 weeks with my Polestar rental were fantastic.

I've been shopping these cars for a couple months. Used 2022 Polestar 2s are going for $30k-ish right now, a 50%+ depreciation in 2 years. Probably headed below $25k by the end of the year, crossing the used EV tax credit threshold and triggering a $4k discount. I'm holding out a bit longer while the EV fire sale continues.

$7500 is from the govt, but the rest is from Polestar.
According to online chat, the Polestar Clean Vehicle Incentive does not include the 7500 federal credit. I think I have to ask polestar directly instead of the online chat person.

Edit: Asked the CSR to double check and "We do not offer federal tax credits.". So I guess the 10k is essentially a substitute.

Right. Polestar is 150 max, Tesla is 250 max. Not going to get 170 in the Polestar.
Also, per polestar website it has up to 205kw for long range version

yea thats true. but if overall monthly cost for payment + insurance is under $500 that's a solid win. big + too since you dont have to take a depreciation hit on it.

When you buy instead of lease, excess mileage will depreciate your car faster, meaning your car is worth less.

No one gets fed credit for lease, only way is for manufacturer to pass on the credit to you, as in this case.

Uhhh, yes. I've been investing in the EV space for nearly a decade now so I'm very well aware of what I am talking about and am not confusing Fisker (another junk EV company) with Polestar.

"Massively large company."
Geely is a massively large auto company in China but not worldwide. BYD destroys Geely, no competition. BYD does over 3x the revenue Geely does and will grow far bigger than Geely while having better vehicles for the masses.

They only did $23 billion in revenue last year. That pales in comparison to the largest automakers. Toyota, for example, did $270 billion in revenue last year.

"They're doing just fine." Again, you have no numbers to back it up, I do.
Polestar only has $700 million in cash and is constantly raising new money through debt using heavy interest to sustain their business. That's only expected to last them a year or two at best.

Their revenue is as high as their COGS. That means just labor and materials to build the car is how much they're selling the vehicle for. No gross profit. Add in selling and operating costs and they're burning $200 million every quarter minimum.

They're unlikely to be profitable any time soon which is why Volvo reduced their holdings so that Geely can pay for it instead.

Only a matter of time before Geely realizes that Polestar is not competitive with BYD and Tesla and can't reasonably sustain the business.

Their vehicles are also priced at a premium at a time where EV sales are declining currently.

I'll give them 5 years before their company has going concern issues. Right now they're in a stage, like many other EV makers, where they have they are too deep into it to quit. Rivian and LUCID are two other companies. Can't and won't be profitable any time soon. Fisker is dead on arrival. Who else do we need to talk about here?
All those are correct. One addition- Geely will never go down due to who is the owner behind.

Volvo were such great cars that they went bankrupt , almost , China purchased the company. Polestar is China's electric car brand. Tesla is a super popular brand in China. China is out producing Germany in vehicles. You can all go ahead and laugh at Tesla or make fun of Elon but the truth is the guy is a genius - Tesla Model Y is the number one ☝️ selling car in the world. Tesla surpassed Toyota Camry and Honda Covic in Sales. No other world car brand has been able to do that.
What have you achieved in your life ?!
