Never.
I don't believe Ancestry proper has been hacked. Their subsidiary rootsweb was in 2017, but unlike 23 and me, they didn't blame their customers for their system's security failure. I know plenty who have done Ancestry and found blood relatives they didn't know they had. So, and easy recommendation for Ancestry, especially at this price!

There is serious concerns brewing that 23andme is in serious financial trouble and will get bought out for their trove of DNA they have on so many people.
But I like to give people something to think about. They can do as they wish
From memory, ancestry gave you raw data for something like 87 vs something like 129 for 23andme because they are focused not on health data, but on ancestry. They're still at the top when you look at their website, so the exact numbers might have changed, but I'm assuming you'd get a bit more data from 23.
Again this was before all the breaches
edit: I just did some research because the DNA decoding hardware used evolves very quickly for each company, it looks like ancestry has 58k of data while 23andme has 24k now, so situations have reversed, probably because 23andme has been tanking.
But I like to give me something to think about

I'm convinced this is on purpose. All those poor souls that buy the $39 kit that then want to do research will have to cough up much more than $1 to do so.
If one were to buy several of these, do they have a shelf life? I have an adopted cousin that will give these away to people they find in their research in order to get them to take the test.
Curious to do the ancestryDNA to compare 23andme results.
