Out of date? Please explain how this camera is out of date? Is the photos from a Z8 vastly superior. I think not. I've got a Z7 and a Z7ii. I would dare you to tell me which photo was shot on which camera. Your more interested in specs then real world results.

This camera is not "out of date" Bay any stretch. I don't think one can do better for a NEW, mid/high-end camera.

I think we are playing a semantics game, but largely agree with another: cameras 3+ years old in the mirrorless world are "old," but they are still absolutely fit for purpose and can create beautiful images.

How does this compare to a Sony a7cii or a7iv?

Refurbished Z7 II (90 day warranty) for $2599 at Nikonusa.com

This puts to rest any claim that this camera is outdated.

They're both out of date, which doesn't mean they aren't good cameras, they're just old.

Nikon's been very slow updating the mid-range Z, that doesn't mean these cameras are up to date.
Nikon has been stepping it up with firmware feature updates. They just had another one recently. That helps close the gap on age when improvements or feature enhancements are still happening.

ugh this is what I get for impulse buying something.

someone at Samy's traded in a Z6 II with **12** shutter count, no box but otherwise in excellent condition.

had I done the trade-in with my D750 I could've gotten a brand new one for the same price.

ugh. might have to return the used one.

thank you for this!
Only 12 on the count isn't worth all the hassle. That's basically brand new, unless you really need the feature bumps this model provides.

Z6, Z7 aren't fast AF for sports or flying birds, can't beat a dslr.ZF, Z8 are suitable for fast action, surpasses dslr.

For walking subject, the Z6/Z7 AF is ok. Similar to Canon R, Sony A73.

I see the Z6/Z7 at fashion weeks, not so much for major sports
Z7 II might have faster AF than the Z7, but in the price tier, I'd choose the R6 Mark II for fast action or bird shots. The AF system on it is incorporated from the R3. It's been amazing for me.

I know, but just one of those things that I basically overlooked when impulse buying.

probably will use the D750 trade in credit for a good Z lens, at least I am in no hurry. so far my 28-70 f/2.8 is working well with the FTZ adapter.

How do think about zf vs. canon r8?
ZF for light sport, adapting vintage len with AF. Travel friendly

R8 is budget sports shooter with 80% features of R6

Both worth demo.

If you have F mount lens or a random mounts, ZF

If you have EF mount lens, R8

Yes. However I wouldn't buy this, too out of date. Should be updated models coming soon.
I mean it seems like most manufacturers are struggling to come out with "better" models. Between Nikon, Sony, Panasonic, Canon they all have great options for Mirrorless now, the viewfinders and screens are great, the sensors are great, and even on-board video is pretty good too. I don't think there will be major leaps in tech, it's a pretty safe camera to buy.

I just want to emphasize the "demo" part for the zf.
I think with the zf you really need to physically hold it because it's both heavy and not ergonomic.

I found the relatively small 24-70 f4s was a bit front heavy for it without a grip. Any of the grips improve ergonomics though, so it's a must if it'll be used for the longer zooms.

Not a deal. Although 3.5 years isn't old in pro camera market, z 7 2 wasn't much of an improvement over the Z 7 and the Z 7 had poor autofocus performance compared to the competition at its release.

Nearly new Z7 can be had for a little over a 1000 on the secondary market and paying double that for a year of warranty and minor improvements isn't a great deal.

I myself use Z7, and for my landscape only use case it is still king of image quality. If autofocus is of any importance for you though, this is outdated tech in that regard.

It's 4 years old. That's a long time in the mirrorless world. Why do you think it's discounted so much?
Honestly, 4 years old is nothing in the camera world, even for mirrorless. I know professionals still using bodies 10+ years old. No one can tell which picture came from their D810 vs Z8 without pixel peeping. At most you lose some bells and whistles and some autofocus performance going with a z7ii over something newer.

Z8 was release last year. I wouldn't call that out of date.

That said, it's hard to argue that the Z5,Z6 and Z7 series (and the Z30/ZFc/Z50) aren't pretty far behind Canon and Sony in the AF department especially

I love my Z5 and Nikon makes some great lenses.... just realize that anything other than the Z8, Z9 and possibly the ZF are going to have AF challenges in some situations.
having the Z6 and the Z8 together (My camera bag also has a D4 and D5 in it), the AF on the Z8 is next level. It finally makes me not want to use the D4/D5. I just want a 24MP Z8. I find the 45mp sensors to be really noisy in general even at low ISOs. The results are perfectly usable over 20K, but I see so much noise on them.

All that said, Z8 is light years ahead of the other cameras besides the Z9. I haven't used the ZF.
