Charlie Gordon is about to embark upon an unprecedented journey. Born with an unusually low IQ, he has been chosen as the perfect subject for an experimental surgery that researchers hope will increase his intelligence-a procedure that has already been highly successful when tested on a lab mouse named Algernon.

It was a short story first. Arguably one of the best short stories ever written. Anyone who hasn't read the short story should track it down. Definitely worth it.
I remember watching "Limitless" for the first time and just thinking it was Algernon for the 21st century.
A solid story, but not one I'd pay for except hard copy (limited re-read value). The commies in my city put up a giant book depository that costs nothing. It's unreal. Prime real estate, too.
Not the same author.

I remember reading this in third grade, but I thought it was a short story. I doubt it is 221 pages. There must be a lot of forwards and appendices.
The story is simple and has a lot of impact on a ten year old, but I'm not so sure it is worth reading as an adult. Just my 2c
It was a short story first, then expanded into a full novel. You probably read the short story version in grade-school, as did I.
Not a bad story, but my 7th grade English teacher forced me to read it, and I'm not giving her the satisfaction of going out years later and paying money for it.

I just read the short story. It was the perfect pace for me.
I think I tried reading the full novel before, but had a harder time getting through it. I recommend picking the version that works for you. Either way, the story is beautiful and depressing. Loved it.

His blind faith in science, preceded his blindness.
Thanks for the misinformation, Daniel Keyes Moron.
This story has become a TV trope, but what you have here is the original or thereabouts.
