We use this to seal marine research equipment. It's amazing how well it sticks to itself but doesn't leave a residue after removal.

You can freeze it, heat it, it'll last for years. It's a rubber based compound that's made for splicing power and communications mains. It's commonly used for waterproofing lines, especially antennas and transmission lines (Coax Connectors) for radio. (Every Ham Radio Operator keeps a roll). The "cheap" stuff usually isn't waterproof, and comes undone (in a gooey mess) it about a year when exposed to sun. This stuff can be used and can be removed fairly cleanly for many years.

It's impressive how much better this electrical tape is compared to the cheap stuff.

Can you expound on that? Like the guy a few replies up said, how is this worth the 7x difference? Genuinely curious, not trying to be a jerk about it.

It's worth the money. Cheap stuff comes off eventually and leaves adhesive everywhere. This tape stays pliable for years if not over a decade. I threw all my cheap rolls away after finding this stuff.

This Super 88 tape is so wonderful. My biggest love about it is conformance/pliability/stretch-ability and "stick" even in low temps. Amazes me how well it holds up over the long-haul and can be removed at a later date without becoming a gooey mess. Well-worth $7 a roll of 3/4" by 108' . In for 2. Note that HD has this for similar price but their roll is only 66' long. Repped OP!

The 3M 33+ is also an excellent tape.

I used to use this until I found some high end Tesa automotive wiring tape. I forget the specs but they make a broad range of tapes and some are pretty great.

I don't believe you ever have to take off HF tape because it just removes itself (and leaves a gooey mess behind).

Edit: Lol, gooey autoswiped as fiery, which could have also fit

I wondered the same thing a while back when this issue came up, so I bought some of this and the super 33 to compare to the $1.50 +- a roll tape. These tapes have better adhesion and stretch. In addition I think this explains why I had so many tape failures on some applications after time, especially automotive. I had been using the cheap tape. I now have both. The good stuff for real repairs and wiring that I want to last and the cheap stuff for just holding things like hose or rope in loops for short term storage.
Just my .02 worth
