Please change original post. These are definitely not "zero hours" regardless of what the SMART data says.

14-32k hours from what I've seen in person, or 3-5 years right after the OEM warranty starts running out. These drives are the ones that have passed the bathtub curve and will probably run until obsolete. Just use two disk redundancy and scan them once a month. I added 96TB RAW as a DAS last month for under a grand. Unless you're in a high performance application, how can you beat that!

Don't trust any warranty from any ebay seller. Been burnt plenty of time.

Yeah, that claim is incredibly scummy.

Thinking of returning my 16TB WD external (refurb) for this that I paid $20 more for. How many hours of use are typically on these drives?

5 years is usually a safe guess. That's when most data centers seem to pull them and that most people have reported on drives where the SMART data wasn't cleared.

X24 deal is better since those drives have only been made since October 2023. The two drives I got had 3 hours power on time and were manufactured Dec 27 2023. Was the same price too. Worst case with x24 is you get a drive with 6-7months power on time.

I've been looking at the X24 deal really hard, they are still only $10 more than these, and they were the same price a couple of weeks ago.

It just seems too good to be true. Why are they selling the newest version cheaper than the older version? With less hours, and more cache? Why would they be cheaper? Because they fell off a truck?

I've had them in my cart for days, and I think I have convinced myself to pay ~$10 more for WD drives instead.
