Not receiving deal alerts for some keywords

965 132 May 3, 2024 at 06:15 AM
I made some deal alerts for shoes but haven't been able to receive one shoe deal alert.

Keyword: "men's shoes" -running

I want anything with "men's shoes" in the body except for running shoes. I have it set to +2 rating.

Why didn't I get an alert for this deal? https://slickdeals.net/f/17457180-jordan-max-aura-5-men-s-shoes-from-54-free-shipping?src=frontpage_recombee&prop=rcmid-b5d7fa804def5fca2a976f16d800bc00

It has men's shoes in the body, no "running" anywhere, and it was a frontpage deal.

Keyword: Men's trail shoes

I want anything with Men's trail shoes in the body, +2 rating. Why didn't I get an alert for this deal?
https://slickdeals.net/f/17468340-adidas-men-s-terrex-soulstride-running-shoes-core-black-39-20-free-shipping?src=SiteSearchV2Algo

It has all the keywords in the body. Again frontpage deal.

Keyword: men's hiking shoes

+2 rating but no deal alerts even though these should have matched https://slickdeals.net/f/17458230-eddie-bauer-men-s-or-women-s-terrange-hiking-shoes-various-60-free-shipping-on-75?src=SiteSearchV2Algo
https://slickdeals.net/f/17456928-columbia-shoes-men-s-redmond-hiking-shoe-wide-fit-39-20-women-s-firecamp-fleece-lined-shoe-36-more-free-shipping?src=SiteSearchV2Algo

Am I doing something wrong or is it SD? Like I said I am able to get other deal alerts so it is partially working.

Can you screenshot your deal alert settings? Maybe a category or forum setting is wrong

Hi. I took a quick glance and noticed those deals were created in April and you added the deal alert on May 1st.
My assumption would be those deals hit the "2+" threshold sometime before you added the deal alert, sometime between april 26th and may 1st.

We don't look backwards when dealing with alerts. Next time a deal matches your alert, you should get the email.

I hope that helps.

No I've had those deal alerts for awhile. Certainly before April 26th. I did change one of them briefly today then I changed it back. I think something was up with the alert system.

edit: You're right about the trail and hiking shoes keyword being created in May but the Men's shoes -running, merrell men's, and men's sneakers -running, I created months ago and I don't remember getting any alerts for them

It's still not working. I should have received an alert for this but I didn't: https://slickdeals.net/f/17468952-asics-men-s-gel-quantum-90-iv-shoes-2-colors-54-95-free-shipping?src=jfy&prop=rcmid-e461ec8439b56e9d3776de09262c0990&attrsrc=JFYCarousel%3APosition%3A4%7CJFYCarousel%3AType%3Athread

Also I've had keyword: "metro by t-mobile" since last year but didn't receive any alerts like https://slickdeals.net/f/17453058-existing-metro-by-t-mobile-customers-samsung-galaxy-tab-a9-5g-w-30-days-service-20-w-new-tablet-line-activation?src=SiteSearchV2Algo or https://slickdeals.net/f/17334987-existing-metro-by-t-mobile-customers-samsung-galaxy-tab-a7-lite-or-tcl-tab-8-le-from-20-w-new-tablet-line-activation-30-days-of-service?src=SiteSearchV2Algo

for the shoes deal, what deal alert of yours do you think it should have matched?

For the t-mobile, it looks like it should have matched. I will dig into those a little.

For thread 17453058 (Galaxy Tab A9), I can see that the deal alert event fired in our system for you, and also that the email was sent and delivered.
See the screenshots I attached to this post.
(note: the time of the "timestamp" is in UTC, the sent/delivered time is in PDT, hence a 7 hour difference)

This deal was posted 5/6 at 9:48 a.m. https://slickdeals.net/f/17476245-reebok-men-s-rewind-run-shoe-26-98-reebok-women-s-danielle-guzio-club-c-cleated-mid-shoe-41-98-more-free-shipping?src=SiteSearchV2Algo

The keyword [men's shoe -running] should have triggered it right? It has [men's] and [shoe] in the body and doesn't have [running] anywhere in it. But I didn't receive an email alert, unless the word [run] counts as an exclusion.

I also recently created another keyword [-running @title men's shoe] that should have triggered it as well?

I don't remember receiving any email alerts for metro by t-mobile either. Is it possible to resend the Galaxy Tab A9 alert as a test?

so keyword "men's shoes" will only match a thread with those words in the same order e.g. the thread description or title needs to also say "men's shoes" not "men's nice shoes" etc.

You should try changing the keyword to "(men's AND shoes) -running" which should match if both men's and shoes exist in the text somewhere

Just to clarify, it wasn't "men's shoes" with quotations. I changed it a few days ago to men's shoe -running (no quotes, shoe singular) to make it even more general. I understood this to mean if the body of the post has men's and shoe anywhere it would trigger. I also understood that a space in between keywords is treated as AND so putting AND is redundant? Also the new keyword I added days ago: [-running @title men's shoe] should have also triggered it since it has men's and shoe in the title and no running anywhere in the title or body. I got these rules from this post https://slickdeals.net/forums/showpost.php?p=67718300&postcount=540

With these rules in mind, should https://slickdeals.net/f/17476245-reebok-men-s-rewind-run-shoe-26-98-reebok-women-s-danielle-guzio-club-c-cleated-mid-shoe-41-98-more-free-shipping have triggered them?

edit: you were right about the t-mobile alert. I must have deleted it without realizing. But I looked in my trash folder going back 3 weeks and have not found any deal alerts for shoes at all

so I have two theories, one is that the -running is causing an issue somewhere, and two is that the apostrophe is causing an issue somewhere (a third theory could be that BOTH of these things together are causing the issue)

"somewhere" being either somewhere in our query code, or somewhere in the search engine itself.
e.g. possibly something like, because there is an apostrophe, we're trying to escape the keyword, causing it to never match (men's vs men\'s).
or, because there is an exclusion, it's treating men's shoe as "men's shoe"

I will have to see how I can try and replicate this issue

ok I'll wait for your results. Thanks for looking into this.

I created another alert last night for the simple keyword [shoes] just to see if I can actually get any shoe alerts. I could also create one for [shoes -running] to see if the dash is causing an issue.

edit: I just received a deal alert for [shoes] so I can confirm it works. I'll remove keyword [shoes] and try [shoes -running]

edit 2: I received a deal alert for [shoes -running]. So the exclusion seems to work. It's looking more likely that [men's] is the culprit?

Also I've had the deal alert keyword [merrell men's] +2 rating active since 3/28/24. I searched SD and there's been at least 4 deals posted since then. Can you check if your system has sent any email alerts for those? If it hasn't then your theory about the apostrophe being the problem is probably correct.

I changed my shoe alerts that had [men's] to [men] and now I'm getting alerts for [men shoe -running] and [men sneaker -running]. So it must be the apostrophe that's causing it.

I haven't gotten any alerts for [-running @title men shoe] which should have triggered if [men shoe -running] triggered. I don't know if it's because your system won't send duplicate alerts or if the @title modifier isn't actually functioning.
