Have the same question, just picked it up yesterday. To be honest, the q80b is a pretty sick TV so far
I have the QN90B and it's the best TV I've ever seen. I'm sure the QN80B for $1000 is a smoking deal! 🤙🏻😱

It doesn't seem to be a great TV for Movies

https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews...x80k-x80ck [rtings.com]
Rtings reviewed the 65" that is 60Hz and has an IPS panel (low contrast ratio). The 85" has a VA Panel (higher contrast ratio), so PQ based on Rtings review criteria will be better on this 85" than their review suggests.

it is 60hz panel, not a big fan of
It's 120Hz... NOT 60Hz. That's a misprint in the picture by Costco. If you scroll down and check the specs... it's 120Hz. You obviously didn't read the thread title, description, or any of the comments.

The size is great but if you're going to get a TV around this size, I'd highly suggest going the OLED route. I got the x90k 75" but regret not just spending the extra money on the OLED. It's a night and day difference. 77" OLED is what I should have gotten but didn't because didn't want to spend another $500 at the time. This 85" is by no means bad or anything but picture wise, you're not going to see anything amazing different. It will be bigger size (if you're upgrading) and that's pretty much it. Just my 2 cents.

I have an X90 85" and have been very happy with it. Especially for the price point. Sony makes solid TV's across the board. I think at this price it's a no brainer deal.

I guess not 🤷

Easiest way on Costco listing to see that all the people saying the 85" is 120hz native are right is to scroll all the way down and look for the specifications PDF attached to the Costco listing. That shows the differences in variants and clearly shows the 85" is 120hz. Page 6 of the PDF.

FYI, these Sony TV's are model year 2022.

Off Topic: A relative bought a Sony 85" XBR85X81CH (model year 2020) from Costco in June 2022 for $1000. After a late 2023 system update from Android TV 9 to TV 10, the Android/Google TV interface has became very laggy at times (5~10+ seconds pauses running apps, or sometimes just moving the cursor around), and you can see the UI freeze then Google TV restarts itself periodically. Per the AIDA64 app, his TV has a MT5693, quad-core Cortex-A73 1.5GHz which was "faster than most Android TV in 2020" per some online discussion (many TV boxes still use inferior A53/A55 CPU then, and even today) and it has decent RAM and storage (2.5GB RAM, 6.4GB flash with half free). Possibly poor optimization, or maybe Google TV just suck. My $20 Onn. Android TV 4K UHD streaming box with slower 4x1.8GHz A53 is far snappier.

Hope this TV doesn't fall to the same fate in the future.

This is a middle of a road for the Sony lineup. Deal is ok, nothing special.
TV is middle of the road (I would call it low end of midrange). The deal however is great for an 85" 120hz Sony from Costco with a 3 year warranty.

IMO anyway.
