Components most changed/upgraded are RAM, SSD and GPU. All of them can be upgraded in this Dell. Comes with a 4090 and a 1000W PS. Why change power supply? 5600 DDR5 is bad? Just looking at a $2800 Lenovo Tower 7i with same CPU and they use DDR5 5200. Your unsureness on the cooling doesn't instill confidence you know what you're talking about.

This is a tired conversation. You want to build from scratch, feel free. You think there is better pre-builts, then LINK THEM to them if you truly want to help people.

"Replaced the 1TB with the 990 4TB Pro with heatsink successfully" Did you replace or just clone and wipe the 1tb but leave it in?
Cloned it with 4TB in 2nd slot and then replaced the 1TB entirely. The 1TB is sitting here off to the side in case I need a pristine start. I didn't wipe it. Will add another 4TB once we see a good SD come through.

So why would your time-spy score be 1k plus higher than mine when they are identical hardware?
That is a good question. I didn't tweak any settings like tenchi0001 mentioned.

perhaps just run-to-run variation? I'd be interested in HODR doing the test again a few times to see what scores occur.

p.s. What is the slickest deal on 3dmark? About $7 from one of the various steam key sites?

I ran it 3 times, made sure the last time there was nothing updating or installing in the background and the computer was completely up to date, 273XX each time.

I'll grab a key and run it a few times myself tonight. Same upgraded ram and SSD here.

FYI I was using the Steam Demo, which just has the time spy test. Monitor is 4k/120hz.

I got the free demo you mentioned from steam. Only ran it one time. Had all 3 of my VMs going in the background since I'm still working. "Graphics Score" 31391' and "Cpu Score" 16930' and "Time Spy Score 27825". Monitor is 8k60, but I don't know if that matters. Will run again tonight after work without the3 VMs going.

Your score appears closer to mine, so I will call that confirmation. I think you mentioned you added ram so that might account for the small variance. I am more concerned by the guys getting 31k+ with the same hardware.

Apparently the full tool has all kinds of logging, and people post the logs w/ visual graphs in different forums and then greater minds are able to diagnose what is going on. Like, here, your cpu temp spikes, and then your gpu does this.. The result said it's still in the top 2% of all machines tested, so I don't really care at this point, but would be curious to know how -- as you mentioned -- the average is more like 30,000 for our processor and graphics card.

that's a new one, isn't it? "Dell has their fingers in both ears, their eyes closed, and is yelling 'nahnahnahnahnahnahnah". We'll keep you updated. - CB Site.

Since i'm here: The 4tb Samsung 990 Pro that had been crashing and disappearing from the system until I performed the latest firmware update started crashing and losing connection again. I turned on the 'full power' mode in the Samsung Magician software after reading about that potential 'fix' in various forums. While the 990 Pro hasn't crashed during active use since then, my new problem is that every night, when I go to bed, I turn off the monitor (a 65-inch 8k Samsung),and when I come back in the morning, the monitor no longer has a signal from the 4090. I jiggle the mouse, I press some buttons, I have even unplugged and plugged back in the HDMI cable, but it never finds the signal. All of the usual lights are on on the computer (so it hasn't shut down, as far as I can tell), but I have to force a shutdown with the power button and boot it back up, then go through the rigamarole of windows telling me it was shut down improperly, etc. Adds a good 10 minutes to my start of work every morning at this point. Lots of problems so far, but I'm sure they'll eventually be worked out.

Hmmm I checked Samsung Magician and I'm still in "Standard Mode". I did change a setting in the "Balanced" power profile which might have effectively done the same thing. I set Hard Disk->Turn off hard disk after->Setting (Minutes):" to 0 under the advanced power settings. Also set the minimum processor state to 100%.

I have a triple screen setup but don't ever turn them off. Haven't seen any hint of a GPU issue yet. Did you update BIOS yet? When I run "wmic bios get smbiosbiosversion", I'm seeing 2.6.0

Glad you got the SSD situation figured out (fingers crossed). Keep us posted on losing connection to your monitor.

Thanks. I didn't know about that cmd line . I report 2.6.0 as well. I also had created the custom power profile with the hard disk turn off at '0.'. Going to look into the minimum processor state setting now. Even in 'full performance mode' in the Magician software, the drive still seems to idle at 35-36C, so I don't think there's any real issues with keeping that setting on, despite the ominous warning they give in their own software, lol.

Edited to add on 5/20: PC Was running all night, monitor was off, and the moment I tried to turn the monitor on today, the machine was still working fine, and the monitor was immediately recognized. It turns out I had not rebooted the computer after telling the Samsung Magician software to use the performance mode until yesterday. It seems that may have finally done the trick. It's over, Mr. Frodo! Now we just need that cashback. woot
