Components most changed/upgraded are RAM, SSD and GPU. All of them can be upgraded in this Dell. Comes with a 4090 and a 1000W PS. Why change power supply? 5600 DDR5 is bad? Just looking at a $2800 Lenovo Tower 7i with same CPU and they use DDR5 5200. Your unsureness on the cooling doesn't instill confidence you know what you're talking about.

This is a tired conversation. You want to build from scratch, feel free. You think there is better pre-builts, then LINK THEM to them if you truly want to help people.

Thanks. I didn't know about that cmd line . I report 2.6.0 as well. I also had created the custom power profile with the hard disk turn off at '0.'. Going to look into the minimum processor state setting now. Even in 'full performance mode' in the Magician software, the drive still seems to idle at 35-36C, so I don't think there's any real issues with keeping that setting on, despite the ominous warning they give in their own software, lol.
Hmmm that's good info, I just set mine to Full Performance will see how that goes. Hopefully your experience smooths out soon! Smilie So far I want to keep it.

cash back website told me dell hasn't reponded to their request for info, I submitted missing cash back request like 10 days ago
I did a follow-up request and they replied

"At this time we have yet to receive a resolution from Dell Technologies for this inquiry. We apologize for this delay and remain hopeful that this matter will be resolved soon. As soon as a resolution is received we will be sure to let you know. Your continued patience is greatly appreciated."

I still see nothing under "Order Placed" for that shopping trip. Meh.

Same...makes me wonder if they get their money from the shop? If Dell really did take a beating on these, they may be trying to claw some back by ignoring the cash back agreement....

Replaced the 1TB with the 990 4TB Pro with heatsink successfully. The tip to use Macrium for the cloning was solid. Worked perfectly. Also upgraded the RAM to 64GB CP2K32G56C46U5 which as expected ran at 5200 vs 5600 speed of the included RAM. Time Spy went from 28528 to 28092 with the ram change. Applied the BIOS update as well as a firmware update for the 990 Pro.

So far this is rock solid.
Why did your timespy go lower

Edited to add on 5/20: PC Was running all night, monitor was off, and the moment I tried to turn the monitor on today, the machine was still working fine, and the monitor was immediately recognized. It turns out I had not rebooted the computer after telling the Samsung Magician software to use the performance mode until yesterday. It seems that may have finally done the trick. It's over, Mr. Frodo! Now we just need that cashback. woot
Glad you got everything worked out with your drive. IF you continue to have troubles, the WD Black SN850X is on sale for $288 after NVMESALE coupon code, along with 5% cash back.

So we are basically R16 twins :-)

Except, I put my 4 TB 990 Pro in the 2nd slot and use that just for games. Keeping the 1TB until I can save for another 4TB for slot 1 as well. Yes, I upgraded the SSD firmware right away. So far temps have been great.
I also switched the 32GB mem out for the 64GB CP2K32G56C46U5 kit as well. As expected, it is running at 5200 as well.

So here is the weird thing, my Time Spy is higher than yours. I get an average of 32224. I am actually considering installing one of the Corsair LCD water coolers to see if temps improve. Do you have the 4090 as well? I also opted for the Intel Core i9-14900KF. It is useful to share our Spy scores so we can get a bench line. System has been rock solid as you have you have experienced. We are R16 brothers :-)

Yeah looks like your KF upgrade paid off. 6GHz vs 5.8GHz and higher TDP I believe. Attached is my latest run, we both have the same 4090 but your graphics score is higher. Probably due to the better CPU. Nice!!! Silicon lottery can be a factor too.

Honestly, I'm not unhappy with my score, I feel like I got an amazing deal even if the CB doesn't pan out.

Happily they did improve a bit and I'm getting around the same score every time 32350ish, not sure why I was losing an extra 300 points for a while, could have been some transient background task.

No heatsink is a bummer on that one.

Not sure one is needed. I have that drive and it's running at 36-40c when gaming. You'll notice the drives have good clearance around them and the air passes directly over them. And if you decide you do need one, the $6 ones on Amazon will be more than sufficient.

Weird thing happened. I walked away for a few minutes. When I came back it was booted to what looked like a BIOS recovery and it said "No Hard Drive Detected". Ctrl+Alt+Del and it ended up trying to PXE boot so I thought woah, did my 990 Pro already die? Got into BIOS and somehow my boot order had switched to network boot for options 1 and 2 and Windows Boot Manager for option 3. Moved Windows Boot Manager to 1 and booted back up just fine. HWINFO64 shows temps look good and Samsung Magician shows a good temp as well as a successful diag test. Weird!!

[edit]
Oh wow, apparently my computer initiated a support ticket without my even knowing about it. Dell support already emailed me about it with suggestions. They even know about the drive swap!! Adding in a picture. The link to the BIOS they are providing 2.7.0 (a little newer than what we have now) is https://dl.dell.com/FOLDER1148434....0_x64.exe in case anyone else needs it. I updated to it without issue.

you're experiencing what I reported a few days ago in this thread, and hundreds or thousands have reported across various forums with respect to the 990 pro disappearing from the machine. Expect it to continue until you enable full performance mode in the samsung magician software.

I also removed the factory installed 1TB SK hynix in favor of a 4tb 990 pro. Couldn't get the drive to show up to freshly install windows. Turns out in the BIOS, sata/nvme operation mode was "disabled". Once I enabled "nvme/achi" the drive showed up.

well that's bizarre, right? How did it ever boot the original 1TB SK hynix if nvme was disabled? "Technology."
