DS3 is still a decent game, but DS2 is the Assassin's Creed 2 to Dead Space's Assassin's Creed.
I've never played 3 and I think you can skip it because 1 and 2 tell a complete story together.

All three games were amazing, but at the time, people like to shit on 3, just because micro transactions were included even thought they literally had no bearing on the game. This was before micro transactions were mainstream. Also, don't judge a game and tell people to skip it especially when you have not played it yourself (eyeballing another commenter).
Either way, if you love outer space horror type games, give all 3 a shot. You are going to love it!
