He was able to confirm directly with Dirac regarding Dirac Live and bass management:

According to Dirac Support:
"Yes, standard Dirac Live has always corrected the subwoofer response, taking advantage of the AVR's Bass Management."

He also posted an extremely helpful video from a renowned AV Professional(AA) who worked directly with Dirac for key tips & tricks!
This is the video to follow to maximize your Dirac Live RC, it applies to ANY Dirac Live capable AVR!

You might check out this owners thread on AVS forum from actual owners of this unit with tips and tricks

Different brands implement Dirac differently and have specific steps
I personally own the RZ50 and the set up was different than other Dirac equipped units that I own

Got it. That worked. Thanks.

PS - Watched the video hoping to learn something new (was hoping for more details around bass management, crossover selection/adjustment, etc but alas this was not the case). Video is very high-level (beginners guide) - still helpful but nothing really earth shattering.
As a second source, I recommend everyone running DIRAC to reference this forum and these guides when setting up (this is what I used personally and found it helpful - similar to the video):

Re-linked but it did work for me.

It's good to watch the whole video, it covers some of the misinformation/confusion regarding Dirac Live.

Some common ones is bass management is relied on by the AVRs NOT Dirac.
Setting that up prior to running DL is optimal so it makes the best corrections into your setup.

Calibration setup portion is very helpful, that gets confusing for many.
He does a good job walking you through that.

This is helpful for any Dirac Live capable AVR.
Dirac Live isn't different by brand, works the same universally.
If it did I'm pretty sure AA & Dirac would point that out in that video!

Since we're mostly just talking about Dirac, one cool thing I didn't realize was these receivers let you calibrate either directly with the included microphone or with a PC connected to a calibrated mic. So if you have a Umik-1 or equivalent, you can do a super accurate calibration. Pairs amazing with my miniDSP.

As for the deal itself, it's solid, but I do wish this would come down a bit more. Lowest I recall seeing for RZ50 was $899 for a refurb. I ended up pulling the trigger on a NR7100 new for $550 (pretty regular deal from Adorama) to replace my RZ830. So far I've been very happy. Main downside between the NR7100 and RZ50 is the lack of preouts on the 7100, but honestly I will probably never add an additional amp.

Since Dirac Live relies on your AVRs bass management, those other second sources would be more helpful with DL.

Looking at specific models would be even better since each brand/model has their own bass management adjustments, they're not universal.

If you had Dirac's bass management(ie DLBC) those second sources become pretty much moot.

Dirac's bass integration/management makes adjustments between your sub and each of your loudspeakers individually.

If you have more than one sub it does the same between the all and then between your loudspeakers.
You can make adjustments to all this very easily, it's top notch!

Here is Dirac's description of what DLBC offers, pretty spot on:

Bass Management: Dirac Live filters are designed such that each subwoofer in the arrangement contributes equally to matching the drawn target curve. A system with 1 subwoofer will adjust this subwoofer so that it matches the curve, while a system with 2 or more subwoofers will scale the volume (or gain) of each subwoofer so that they collectively add up to provide the drawn response. However, it will not consider any destructive interference between the speakers.

Bass Control: Dirac Live filters harmonize the subwoofers and non-subwoofer speakers in the lower frequencies using tailor-made phase filters, delays, and gains.

Amir (of the above forum, respected engineer in this space) do not recommend this avr. Yet I bought one anyways. (Mostly Slickdeals effect, buy now think /research later. )

I'm all around Audio forums trying to understand the tech, terminology, physics. So far it's excruciating. All I want is good sound out of something I purchased and I don't want to get a degree in acoustic/Audio engineering. Dirac and Audyssey are supposed to help me with that. Instead I end up tweaking and twiddling to no end.

I had been playing with Audessey 'One' - on my Marantz nr1712 and got better results. Requires you to have the mobile app, and a Windows machine to generate the modified curves. But it's super easy. https://youtu.be/iU1ZBsru76M?si=P008r1kHfWHfM5Lm

I'm going to try Dirac with this avr and hope it turns out good.

If you are comparing, I would suggest to go with Denon x3700 (last gen one, not the latest) for discreet sub outputs and better DAC (internal digital audio processing chip). Can be had in the same price range of you are ready to wait for adorama offers or buy refurbished from a4l, Denon refurbished or even best buy.

I recently bought this receiver(brand new) with high expectations, but honestly was disappointed because of 2 things and hence had to return. The video goes blank in between when watching content, had a 45 minute long phone conversation with onkyo tech support, but none of the options worked out. The sound quality is good but nothing near phenomenal even after DIRAC calibrations IMHO, compared to a Marantz or my Emotiva MR1L. Keeping my MR1L over this. One gripe I have on the MR1L though is that there is no IR profile code that amazon fire stick has for this emotiva model, hence I have to use fire stick and MR1L remotes. Yet to research on options to circumvent this. It's still a keeper for the top notch sound quality it offers in comparison to all receviers I've tried so far.

To summarize -
Anything over 44.1/48 kHz will be downsampled (despite spec sheet saying 192kHz DAC) when Bass management is on. (You can drive L+R full-range towers with bass management turned off if you care about this.)
There is a strange undocumented situation where the internal amps would power-limit if your speakers are lower than 8ohms.

What makes it way better? I have the 505 and while I like it, it doesn't let me set crossovers independently for individual sets of speakers. I believe rz50 has individual crossovers and more power output.
