I just posted a comment on this. I think you're correct.
I saw it happen with my dog. We had always used frontline seasonally, but we noticed the dude still had fleas. Switched to nexgard and the fleas were gone.
No, I bought it in person at petco.
Was considering picking up a 6 month supply, then figured in my situation (2 dogs, roughly the same size, total weight 85-90lbs) - its still cheaper for me to buy the 8 pack at Costco ($80) for the XL dogs (89-132lbs) and split each dose between the pair...($16.66 vs $10 to dose both dogs)
However this is tempting, as it would be less messy, and troublesome (weighing an empty container, then weighing the container between doses to be sure the contents are split evenly) for a $6.66 premium per dose....hmm...
Nextguard / bravecto are ridiculously expensive compared to this but sometimes expensive things are worth it - especially for your pet.
Positive note - Frontline would be a good option for dogs prone to seizures since nextguard and bravecto active ingredient can increase risk and or frequency. Again, ask vet.

I buy XL dog, then use a plastic syringe to dose a medium dog and 2 cats fairly cheap.
Surprise! The staff thinks it's a good deal.
Does absolutely nothing for our dogs.
Mosquito 🦟
Ticks
Fleas
Spider 🕷️
Etc etc.

Spray the yard and especially under the leaves.
For those hardcore on the mosquito front:
add this
1CSI Tekko Pro IGR Insect Growth Regulator 16 Oz https://a.co/d/7vbLsqZ
this will sterilize the mosquito it doesn't kill and prevent from reproducing
I use the top one inside and outside and the bottom one every two months and top one every month.
a little goes a long way, I'm on an acre and one purchase of the top lasts two years and the bottom will last even longer.
