These I believe during testing was found to restrict airflow significantly. Do your own research though.

There was no redirect. Listen carefully and watch from the chart to the end of the video.

Here's the chart: https://youtu.be/RkjRKIRva58?t=658

0.52 was one of the best static pressures of the group.

He goes on to say "Even though the 3M 1900 which is a MERV 13 filter does have a very tightly woven filter media, it overcomes the static pressure challenge by having 54 pleats and 1560 square inches which is more than twice as much as any of the other one inch filters."

Yes, and had significantly higher pressure which is the point, but nice redirect.

You missed the point, that it's not a "myth", because clearly we see significant differences in static pressure. Even across 3M's own lineup. Hence why I say, do your own research.
Yes, you are agreeing with me that you must evaluate each filter individually and not assume that a higher MERV rating automatically means the filter has lower air flow. I didn't realize that you were were in the other filter thread or I wouldn't have quoted you.

Yes, I do agree that you shouldn't assume high MERV rating means lower air flow. MERV doesn't measure air flow, it merely measures how effective it is at catching particles.

However, the way 3M puts it, they imply that high MERV will always not affect air flow. That changes wildly from filter to filter, even among the same brand.

The Honeywell 4" filter performed extremely well with low static pressure. So if you can fit a thicker filter, that might be a better choice.

Ironically, if a filter doesn't let any air through, it technically meets the highest MERV rating. 😂🤣

Great idea. Costco has made it easy to request a price adjustment online.

I'm no expert, but from my experience the higher filtration ones do seem to limit airflow. You can tell by looking at the filter as well after a month or so, the higher filtration ones would be bowed towards the airflow. I've bought the cheaper generic ones and just change them monthly. Still costs me less than the "premium" filters and doesn't limit airflow.

https://youtu.be/XAJ__E-hIJc This guy does very comprehensive air filter tests. And 3m came out on top. The merv 14 flows more than other brands merv13, and consistently so.

Nonsense - the filter medium total area is increased to ensure the pressure drop/resistance to air flow is the same as the lower MERV number filters - if you looked closely you will see that the higher number MERV filters have way more pleats i.e. greater total surface area.

Worth noting they changed the filters they offered on costco.com. they used to be the mpr2200/merv13 filters, now they're 2500/merv14
