Trade-in any phone or tablet in any condition to get $50 off and then sign-up for texts/emails for an additional $30 off. The OnePlus Pad is currently $80 off and you get a free Magnetic Keyboard ($150) or Folio ($30 - I don't recommend).

Cost breakdown:

$480 Pad
$150 Keyboard
$630 Total

-$80 Discount on Pad
-$150 Free Keyboard
-$50 Trade-in any condition (more for others, like $100 for iP X or $160 for iP 11; or see link https://www.oneplus.com/us/buy-oneplus-pad)
-$30 Sign-up Texts/Emails
$320 New Total

Taxes vary, I'm in CA 7.75%

The total cost for me after taxes is $344.79.

I didn't think no OLED would bother me at all but I find myself wanting to watch stuff on my phone instead.

The multitasking features don't really work as well as they seem to think and aren't as intuitive as you would hope.

No WiFi 6E which I was surprised to learn it didn't have for a tablet released in 2023.

It feels like there are no unique features or licensed apps that make great use of the marketed accessory. When you buy a tablet that comes with a stylus, you would expect features built into the OS that are custom tailored to the stylus or art/scribbling/note taking apps that come with it for free. The keyboard cover perfectly accompanies the tablet physically by how it acts as a cover and snaps on the tablet. But apart from that, it's just a keyboard. Not much is offered in the way of consuming the Android experience with a custom keyboard.
I got this info from a site review of this pad:

The OnePlus Pad comes with OnePlus' OxygenOS software built on top of Android 13. It's a lightly customized take on Android that mostly relies on Google's implementation of things like multitasking. The company is committing to three years of OS updates and four years of security patches on the Pad, both a year less than what it provides for its phones.

So not a great update length. I'll probably pass on this due to the policy.
Don't activate the student discount, even if you are a student. You won't be able to use the $30 off coupon, which is more of a discount.

I'll pass

You can take issue of where the data is going, but to say other companies aren't doing the same thing for a different master is naive.

If it has Google software, it's phoning home and providing analytics to Google. If it has Samsung software, it's phoning home to Samsung. Apple claims minimal phoning home, but network logs show otherwise. It's inescapable.

The only thing you can do as a consumer to mitigate this is remove the apps that phone home, block the associated IP addresses on your network, and accept that it will probably affect some functionality if you still want to use certain apps associated with that ecosystem.

For instance, blocking Google in a hamfisted manner is going to prevent your ability to receive updates, certain push notifications, and access to Google Assistant. And if you use third party software that leverages Google Analytics or AdWords, those applications might not work either.

For this particular tablet, I would freeze any of the system apps that pertain to OnePlus and call it a day. If you outright remove them, it will impact your ability to receive system updates.

I don't see the point how manufacturers strategize Android tablets on the market. There are tons of deals for Android phones due to high profit margin from mobile service carriers and phones are in general better on specs (CPU/GPU/RAM). So in my mind tablets shall provide better productivity features with its larger display to be able to compete with phones under the same operating system. For example, be able to work on a desktop mode (like Samsung's dex or Moto's Ready For) or cellular connectivity (which all phones have) shall be standard or at least an option for mainstream tablets. A GPS module would also help (bad example is Amazon Fire Tablets, all of them has no GPS function). The fact is most of Android tablets on market do not even have these options available. A bad example is Google's Pixel tablet. Its only targeted on in home usage which I do not see how mainstream customers would spend >$500 only for a slightly larger display (nothing compared to TV).
LOL. Wow. Everything you said the the exact opposite of what I want a tablet for. Just use it to watch Netflix and youtube.

Don't need cellular. Don't need GPS. I'll use my computer for productivity thanks. Just lower the price and put those resources into better screen.

I don't think you understand the Android tablet marketplace at all.

How does this compare to Samsung S8+?

No comparison! S8+ is 95% as good as s9... Doesn't get better in android world. Better off buying S8 used from any retailer than OnePlus. You can easily find s8+ for 400 in perfect condition, and with patience, close to 300.

Gonna have to disagree. Google is an American company and is bound by American laws. I'm not saying they never break them, but when it comes to China the gloves are off. You might as well assume every byte of data gets transferred to the CCP. And Google's ecosystem will be on OnePlus Android products anyway so there's no escaping that. At least you can avoid giving China presumably carte blanche access to your personal data.

My daughter wants a chrome book for college. I dont know why. I'm trying to talk her into just getting a touch screen laptop...but it seems that any laptop with touch is way expensive. She says it must have play store as well...dang picky kid.
This seems like it fits the bill. And shes an apple kid...haha she's 24.
I have boatloads of PC software and can get any PC or Apple software free. Wink wink. There is a multitude of .apk files as well.
To be honest I'm tired of looking. I still have the original One plus one.
On a side note, anyone know how to get it to run on t-mobile? I've tried lots of methods and none work. Even tmobile cant figure it out.
Why you may ask do I want it to work...I'm on 2 lines for $60 unlimited everything. The old lady was on it and kicked her out and kept her number. So i just want a cheap phone for the gym. Hate taking my expensive Samsung there. Any ideas for both my questions? Thanks in advance.

Did you even read my response? I made it very clear that giving up your "data" is preventable, but it also limits your ability to use these devices to their full capability.

We could expand on this and talk about how there's a parallel with civil liberties and how hypocritical it is to give up those on behalf of an entire country against their will while clutching pearls about an individual's browsing history, but I don't think you'd get it.

You clearly just want an excuse to spout off xenophobia rather than solve an issue.

Hate to break it to you, but nothing is made in the USA anymore. And that's very likely the only way you or I can still afford anything.

As an American I would be more worried about my information going to an American company than a Chinese one.

That's because you think the "Chinese one" can't touch you. That's naive. We're already deep into the Cold War 2.0. It may very likely turn hot.

Yes, I read your response. Not sure why you need to be so patronizing but whatever.

There is no practical way to avoid giving up your personal data to some extent. The nature of any mainstream email service makes that obvious. In today's online world you pretty much need to give up some privacy to *certain* companies, and my philosophy is to just try to limit it as much as practically possible without stressing too much about it. With that in mind, not buying certain Chinese products that are 100% known to be loaded with spyware in effort to save a few bucks is a no-brainer. If I already have a Samsung phone, buying a Samsung tablet won't make any difference, but buying a OnePlus tablet certainly will. If you want to call that logic xenophobic, have at it.

It's not an either-or choice. I'm in the Android ecosystem and use gmail, so Google has me by the balls and I've accepted that. Buying something from OnePlus, Huawei, etc also hands my balls over to China. I'd rather not, but that's just me.

Traded my $199 Samsung Tab S8 (not OLED) from 2 years ago for a Tab S9 (has OLED and faster CPU) for $199 plus a pair of BudsPro 2 ($230 list) for free. Got the Samsung Slim keyboard for the S9 for $65 on Amazon brand new. Seems better all around than this OnePlus tablet.

Samsung has some pretty good trade-in deals if you check them out regularly.
