If they unlock the device with the purchase of 1 year plan, I am in. If not, no go for me. :\
great phone!
I used to get the newest samsung flagship each year, so glad I switched to this. the phone is still as snappy as the day I got it, great battery life and screen. make sure you buy a cover for the camera (ask me how i know lol).
the only android that's a direct competitor is the pixel pro.
after 3-4 years of daily use most phone battery usually degraded and has to be replaced

I never understood why you limit the charge of your phone. Slow charging the phone is probably better than the stupid 80% limit. You will move to a different phone before the battery is degraded bad enough. Even if it is degraded, they sell cases with a battery built in.

3-4 years down the road those cases can be tough to find as they stop manufacturing them.

Normally I would agree, but this phone has a "Optimized charging" feature where it charges to 80% and waits until just before you wake up to charge the final 20%. There's basically no reason not to turn it on.

I agree with most comments on battery consumption etc.. however, in next 1 or 2 years manufacturers will be required to make phones with replaceable batteries. So its a bit of a moot point. It will be nice to be able to replace our own batteries once again.. save $$ and have a long serving phone.

Has anyone gotten their phone yet? Which Sim did it come with? If I order it is very important that I get the AT&T SIM because T-Mobile is very bad in my area. It is unfortunate that we don't get to choose. I chatted with boost and they said that the network is determined automatically by the system when you place the order and you don't get to change it. They said once activated it is impossible to switch it.

They did say that if I receive it and it came with a T-Mobile SIM I can return it but I will have to pay to ship it back myself.

Sounds like a big gamble.

-they take up precious screen space. look at your curved screen phone, only maybe 80-90% is usable because of those curves. and it will distort video in that area etc too. when every nanometer of screen area is so important on a phone.

-supposedly they are more fragile because the glass is thinner at the curves, altho i'm not really sure about this.

-much more difficult (impossible?) to put your own screen protector on

that said to each his own, they've typically reduce the curves so much from their peak a few gens ago, they arent too bad anymore anyway.
Only phone where I loved the curved design in the edges was the budget LG Phoenix. Since bezels where big relative to nowadays the curve didn't affect at all the visible area of the display and made the phone look thinner and more premium than it was

Weird you can't change sim card once activated.
Is tmobile service bad in you area recently? I mean from January this year to now? I ask because tmobile recently implemented new spectrum. I noticed a huge improvement in my area from November last year when I tried it to march this year when I tried it again. It's even better than ATT now, specially since ATT just bumped the data priority level -1 for everyone and most MVNOs are now lowest priority

I'm aware. Had to swap .y Note 4's battery.

I know battery wear is a thing, but it's more of a concern when the battery is abused. Charging to 100%, discharging to 0%, etc. that's going to do more damage than < 80% over time. There's a reason every manufacturer has some kind of charge limit nowadays.

You can use any phone on T-Mobile, always could. I always have unlocked phones on my T-Mobile line. Have a Boost G Stylus 2022 on it.

I had the Edge 2020 with the OG waterfall screen. It was beautiful in person, never seen such a thing. I have used most of the Galaxy phones but that curve was special lol. Idk why curved screens get so much hate, they look nicer.

They look nice, but all the accidental touches and much harder to repair are 2 very valid reasons why they aren't used much more anymore

esim is locked to Boost forever unless you flash a different firmware.

Even when it's unlocked, esim won't work with other carriers.

Q: I received my sim from Boost. How do I tell if this is a T-Mobile or At&t sim?
A: T-Mobile sims come attached to a white or orange card whose ICCID number starts with 8901240 or 8901260. At&t sims come attached to a black card whose ICCID number starts with 8901410.

Q: I activated a T-Mobile sim but now I want to try the At&t one. Is it possible?
A: As I said before: directly NO. In order to switch networks after activation, you would have to port out, start a new account, port back in, and sign up for whatever plan is available at that moment.

Q: Where would I even get an At&t sim?
A: Not at big retailers like Amazon, Target, Walmart, or Best Buy. They all sell the T-Mobile one. You would need to go to a Boost retail store and asked them if they are willing to give or sell you an At&t sim.. Alternative is ebay. On ebay, search using something like the phrase: "This Will Give You Access To AT&T Network With This Sim Card By Boost Mobile".

Example. ebay item: 384858797184

Q: Can I get a new number now and then port in a different number sometime in the future after evaluating the service?
A: No.

Q: Boost sent me a T-Mobile sim as expected, but I did follow the instructions to select "Yes. I will transfer it during activation." when ordering. I also bought a Boost At&t sim. What do I do now?
A. Boost will have sent you via email instructions on how to access the account they created for you. You would need to first log into that account. Once logged in: on the top portion of the webpage, there should be wording that says something like: Your Line is Not Setup with a button nearby to click on to activate the sim. Click on the button and use the At&t sim. After the sim is activated, Boost will then give you the option of getting a new number or porting in your old number.

I haven't had accidental touches. My hands are pretty thin though. Every phone I use has a case, curve or no curve.

I've been using curved phones since the S8. Had the N8, S10, N10, S22U, Moto Edge and so on...not a single one had a cracked screen. I've dropped phones from standing height many times due to rushing or being bumped into. Hell my S23U slid off my bed recently and hit tiled flooring.

Does this trick work even if I have already prepaid for a year of service along with the phone?

So as long as I obtain the sim that I want and select to transfer my existing number, I can disregard the bundled sim and use my own instead?

Basically, the plan I paid for will be attached to the new "account" and not the bundled sim?

Edit:

I'm seeing that the eBay item linked in that comment mentions that the SIM cards can only be activated with a customer service rep or at a boost Mobile store and that they do not work online. I wonder if this would be a problem. I don't know where else I might be able to get one and this appears to be the only one listed on eBay. The only other black sim for boost I found came with a $5 credit so I'm not sure if that would work either.

Too bad it's not simple.
