My 13yo is playing this as we speak. Excellent guitar for the sub-$500 range IMO. All I did was lower the action using a $10 amazon gauge and a screwdriver. It could use a professional setup, but at this price, I probably won't bother. Maybe an excuse to teach myself truss rod adjustments

Perfectly playable out of the box, though. Frets are sharp, but not a dealbreaker.

(Edit: I paid $150 about 2 years ago including a basic Fender amp. The pickup selector can throw some static and the cable jack was loose pretty quickly, but nothing some basic DIY can't handle.)

I am a bass player but decided to get an affinity tele about 6 years ago for home recording purposes. It sounds and plays surprisingly good for my needs. I honestly wish it wasn't so good so I'd have an excuse to get a real fender.

Excellent deal usually $250 everywhere else all the time. Easy to upgrade as you learn and improve.

Also available is the Affinity Telecaster for $230. Not as slick but good if you want a Tele instead.

Here for the "if you really want to learn how to play guitar, you need a $3,000 strat blessed by the ghost of Hendrix" guitar snob comments.

What amazon gauge? And what does "lower the action" mean? I'd like to pick this up and play Rocksmith 2014 to finally learn how to play a guitar.

What does "lower the action" mean? I'd like to pick this up to use with Rocksmith 2014, i've been wanting to learn how to play for ages now. Also what amazon gauge did you use?

It's basically just string height — the nice thing about electrics is how easy it is. Just use something like the link below, place it on the fretboard at the 12th position and use a small hex key to lower or raise the individual strings to the ideal height. Makes a huge difference, I wish I had known about this in the 90s when I was getting frustrated Wink

A strat blessed by the ghost of Hendrix would be a hell of a lot more than $3000.
