The Steam versions of each game are also sort of outdated for modern PCs. Search the Internet for fan-made mods that update the resolution & control setup for these games. ZDoom website probably has the best fan-made mods for Heretic & Hexen. Hexen 2 has a free fan-made mod on Archive.org.
