This series is so underrated, I encourage everyone to watch it if they haven't. It was wildly popular when it was airing but got cancelled after two seasons because it cost a million plus an episode to make.

The S2 ending serves as a pretty good conclusion to the series without any glaring dangling plot threads, and most of the sets and even actors went on to be recycled in Game of Thrones.

Great series, as a bonus the major historical plot points are pretty accurate.

While the ending was rushed, at least they knew they were getting cancelled and wrapped things up. Had it actually run for the 5 planned seasons, it likely would have been among the greatest TV series of all time.

I get this show and Spartacus mixed up. Which one had more bewbs?
That would be Spartacus, which also has the best series finale of any show ever made. But the first 1.5 seasons have much cheaper production value than Rome (many scenes are filmed in a sand pit or dungeon room).

I'll also throw in Da Vinci's Demons as an alternative to both of the above.

According to IMDb, this is currently streaming on Max for those who have that service. Also, it says the series consists of 22 episodes.

Yeah, following the historical timeline, the next season would have involved Jesus's birth. It would have been hilarious to see Pullo get Mary super drunk, conceive him and then she forgets about the whole encounter the next morning.

Just started it recently and the Blu-ray offers a cool feature that tells you historical facts during the show. If you're a fan of commentaries and such like myself, this is very unique and cool.

This show is great for those who appreciate historical shows of the Roman era— but is also an excellent show regardless of its era.

My favorite HBO series still to this day. In this era they would have had a bigger budget and lasted longer.

One of the best. Sopranos meets history.

Top 5 of all time for me.
