Hmm, the new version (the one on sale) seems significantly worse than the original version based on the reviews.

Is this a popular item to receive counterfeits for? It takes me years to get through 1 tub of this where I might just buy this in a store vs continuing to get on Amazon.

I don't think it's counterfeit. They have different SKUs, so the manufacturer changed the product.

I can't speak personally for this particular pomade, but I've ordered a different pomade from this brand on Amazon with no issues. I almost ordered this, but the reviews are concerning.

FYI, if you have a Floyd's Barbershop near you, check there first for your hair products. Often times they will have better deals than Amazon does. I use Layrite's Natural Matte Cream and a 4.25 oz jar is almost $25 on Amazon - whereas I've bought 2 of them for $32 at Floyd's. Floyd's carries American Crew as well.

Seeing reviews that are clearly not this product like "They are baggy up top and tight on the legs. However, that is the advertised fit." Might be better to just get this from the store 🤔

Not a bad deal at all OP, but can confirm this new formula is terrible and it's hard to know if you're getting the right one. Bought a 10-pack from groupon for their high hold matte finish (the blue one) since I use it daily and have my two sons using it, but it's nowhere near what it used to be. Definitely watch SKUs and look at labels vs descriptions. Mine all say Matte Fiber but no longer say 'High Hold' or 'Firm.' I bought a few (green label & red label) from Amazon since I figured I would just let my boys have the other stuff, but they were just as bad.

I used to like AXE Spiked Up Look putty. They stopped making it for some reason. Anyone know what is a good replacement?

I used to use that too, and I now use the Harry's texturizing putty.
Not quite exactly the same, but works very similarly and I like it about as much!

I use only the blue one too, the "Fiber" one. On Amazon I found ones that are are labeled as the "old version" and these still say high hold/low shine. I don't think they're exactly the same but it's definitely closer. Ex: https://a.co/d/0NJEexK

There are a lot of counterfeits of American Crew on Amazon. There is a noticeable difference in the cream, in terms of texture and durability (lasting hours). I used to buy them in bulk and now prefer to buy them directly from a local store which probably carries the authentic version.
