I looked into it 3 yrs ago when i upgraded from garmin mini. Some bad reviews so i didn't buy it. Looking at review videos and comparing 1080 2k 4k cameras they all look about the same. My moto g power 2020 could do better in 1080 than my current 4k dash cam. Today i'd get 2 of these for front and back instead of 1080 rear. Those are useless. I'm currently looking for better quality 2k/4k 60fps single channel for front and rear. So far no reason to upgrade. All the same crap.
Yes like every other brand. Prices are inflated and then sellers give us "discount code" to make us believe we're getting a deal.
I had good experience with 70mai and they've been in business for a while as part of Xiaomi (A large Chinese phone and smart devices maker). Those can be on sale for $150 w/ a rear camera. I'd wait for their sales though. Look at the video reviews for their latest A810 with sample footage. Their app is decent.
You'll want to look at dashcams reviewed by known youtube reviewers with sample night footage.
If you want a clean look check out fitcamx dash cam. They don't say what kind of sensor they use but depending on your vehicle you just replace that plastic piece where the rear view mirror is and might be able to pull power off one of the harnesses in there. Has a built-in look but not sure about heat. I mount my 70mai behind the plastic trim so it doesn't get that hot.

Not particularly this model but F7N. The device restarted continuously after a 1 yr of use (warranty expired). But it started working fine when I removed the rear view camera. The front 2k or 4k camera is still working, and it's been 2+ years. OK, quality video. Not sure if I should recommend it. Just an OK dash cam
Get Wolfbox brand. I recommend at least G850 model since it come with better backup camera. I like the mirror type dash cam because I can use it as rear view mirror all the time (has wide field of view and could see blind spot)
I have three of them in three of our family cars and it has never failed. I used the recording twice for insurance claim.
This brand often goes on sale on Amazon and it has excellent customer services.

Why does it matter who is reviewing the dashcam? Feels like all you need is enough sample footage in a variety of circumstances and not even from a reviewer. Ideal if you can grab the clean footage and not one ran through another compression algorithm (Youtube). For an item like this I'd trust Amazon reviews for use and installation over any single review.
But definitely singling out a sensor is a good shout for looking at alternatives (and price comparison on how good of a deal it is). Dashcams are wrought with marketing garbage where it's hard to know what's good or not.

They're kind of fun, as long as you don't go crazy with stuff you don't need.

Unit stops recording when it gets hot in summer!!!!
I live in the desert and park in the sun and my VIOFO has worked for 5 years now even hot. Sorry yours has not but that might be a less common story.
Dash cams all have compromises, VIOFO is frequently a good value one.
I question if this cam truly achieves an f stop 1.5? If so how can things be in focus that are relevant?
My advice is read extensively and decide what features you really need. My other dash cam has integrated radar and is nice, with compromises of high price and junk viewing software.
