Never dealing with trade ins with these scam artists
there's no way I'm trading in a phone AND signing a 24 month contract just to get a $500 phone. At that price u might as well just buy the phone and switch to visible.

I believe on my account (at least) you can just add a line and get either the 8 or the 8a for free and then cancel the original line. If that doesn't work I'm just gonna leave T-Mobile and buy the phone when it hits $350. The 8a is a downgrade from the 6 slower charging, cheaper build weaker battery life and no reverse wireless charging and smaller screen no way I would trade it for that. I'm either gonna get this phone free or just get cheaper service personally. Def not signing a contract and doing a trade in

Essentials is cheap because it is excluded from most offers, but you can sign-up as a new customer (need different SSN) to essentials to get iPhones. Port old number out for 90 days, then port it back in on new account.

On the iPhone Essentials deal, you're saying I would need to port out then wait 90 days for port back, correct?

Yes, port out your current Essentials lines and you can port them back in 90 days under the new account (safe way). I think some have tried porting back immediately, not sure how that worked with the new iphone promo. Better to ask in that thread. Basically, if you are a new customer to T-mobile, they will give you phones under Essentials, but you will have to find out what exactly is considered a new customer.

This is a great update to the existing trade-in deal for the Pixel 8.

Does anyone have the short version / TLDR for the distinctions between the Pixel 8 and the Pixel 8a? From what I can tell:
  • Very slight difference in screen size
    (6.2" on Pixel 8, 6.1" on Pixel 8a)
  • Very slight difference in phone size
(the Pixel 8a is a bit larger)
  • Very slight difference in battery capacity size
(the Pixel 8 battery is a bit larger at 4,575mAh vs the 4,492mAh of the Pixel 8a)
  • Some differences in maximum wired and wireless charging rates
(The Pixel 8 tops out @ 27W wired & 18W Qi wireless; the Pixel 8a is limited to 18W wired & 7.5W Qi wireless)
  • A difference in the camera sensor
That last distinction is the one I'm most interested in learning about; I've been pleased with the Pixel cameras but have been frustrated by Google's willingness to move away from a standardized camera across all models. The Pixel 6a introduced the tiered camera system for the bottom end of the Pixel line, while the 7a eliminated wireless charging availability as a significant point of distinction between the two models. As maintaining the highest quality camera option remains a worthwhile investment for me, I suspect the extra $100 for a Pixel 8 might still be under consideration...

Good luck!
Jon

Can I do the trade in on the spot at a Costco kiosk? Or will I have to send it in?

How about at a t mobile store?

I hate sending in the trade and hoping for the best.

Is the 8 THAT bad? Considering buying an s9 of eBay and keeping the 6 as a backup.

I was right according to the T-Mobile website, it says free if you add a line OR trade in an eligible device. So you add a line and then cancel the original line and trade in nothing. If this doesn't work I'll just leave T-Mobile and buy the phone when the price goes down. Simple there is no need to trade in a device and sign a contract for a plastic budget phone 🥺
