Probably one of the better deals for this pool season, as it doesn't seem like the tablet prices are ever going to come back down to levels before the shortage due to the large manufacturing plant loss. Even my source for liquid chlorine (12.5%) when from $4/gallon to $5 last year, and again to $6 this year.

I switched over to salt water and WOW what a money saver. Salt is about $10 a bag and I use 7 for the entire season. Put it in once in the spring, half a bag of shock every weekend, and that's it. The pool is self maintaining. I'll never touch cholorine again.

Yeah, I'll probably switch over when I replace my liner in 1-2 years

I don't have a pool but it looks like a great deal. Can I use this for anything else?

Costco tabs (clorox) are 94.05% tri-chlor 40lb for $140 ($3.50 per lb) ---86% available chlorine
Leslies are 99% tri-chlor 35lb for $200 ($5.71 per lb) ---90% available chlorine

Also note: clorox tabs are not individually wrapped
Clorox formula also has 0.99% copper sulfate pentahydrate (metallic copper equivalent 0.25%)

For another reference
Rx Clear 50lb bucket of tabs $194.99 ($3.90 per lb)
99% tri-chlor ---90% available chlorine

I use HTH brand instead of this.

For regular shocking, my neighbor said he just dumps clorox bleach straight into pool, no need to buy liquid shock he said, but for tabs, only HTH no Clorox.

I am really surprised why OP preferred to post Clorox instead of HTH.

Can someone help a newbie out? My pool guy tried to raise his fee by 40% so I am going to try to maintain our pool for the first time in a SoCal summer. I've been doing some light reading on troublefreepool and I just wanted to know what I need to buy to start. Someone correct me if I am wrong..

Must Haves to start:
Testing kit
Chlorine tablets (I will buy this one)
Pool Shock
Baking Soda
Muriatic Acid

That's all I need right?? TY!

I maintain my own pool so your list covered all the basic chemical needed to keep the water in swimming condition and the 2nd part is about keeping the pool clean and that is another subject by itself.

I believe the clorox tabs have copper in it which have higher risk of metal stain down the road.

Clorox formula also has 0.99% copper sulfate pentahydrate (metallic copper equivalent 0.25%). Was interested in it (price-wise) until I saw that it has copper in the formula

What's the best place to get liquid chlorine? Based on my readings, you go through bottles really quick (maybe 1 gallon a week), do you guys usually just buy bottles and bottles of these things or is there a place to get it filled up? Walmart has it for like $6 a gallon, but other places are way pricier for some reason

I always buy from Walmart. Check the dates on the jugs as liquid CL will go down in effectiveness if its really old or left outside
