I've managed to break one pair of these, it was while loosening a hydraulic fitting on a payloader's grapple someone rounded the coupler off with an adjustable wrench, used these to grab onto the coupler, then slip-joint pliers to squeeze them as hard as possible while tightening the adjustable wrench onto the handles to keep them squeezed and provided extra leverage. Worked to loosen the coupler but I had the dumb idea of hitting them loose from the coupler and broke the top jaw off. Had to pay ~$7 shipping and wait a month, but Knipex warranty replaced them for me. I even told them the story and was well aware they might say no due to abuse of the tool.
