As a Pandemic fan-boy, I'd recommend Hot Zone to any other Pandemic fans looking for a similar experience in a short-form/light game. Hot Zone Europe is differentiated from Hot Zone North America and cards can even be combined[zmangames.com] for a different game experience.

I bought Hot Zone last time it was on sale, but haven't played it yet. I will be sure to give it a shot, thanks.

I think I find the North America version a bit more of a light, condensed version of original Pandemic... but maybe that's also code for less challenging. The Europe game map is a little more interesting given the isolation of the UK cities, but I haven't done any graph analysis to determine a mathematical difference, if any, between the maps. And combining the cards makes things get wild fast.
So if you've tried neither Hot Zone, maybe don't curse both versions if you play the Europe variant first and find yourself disappointed.
Short form games like the Ticket to Ride city games and Pandemic Hot Zone get played relatively often in my house as dinner games with the kids. I make the case that some of these short form games, like the two I've mentioned, are solid kids/introductory versions of their respective games.
