great price for an accessory that you'll use all the time. Once you use it a few times and see what it can do, you'll never want to ride w/o it.

And don't thumbs down and say "I can hear everything, why do I need this?" b/c there's no way you can hear an electric car coming behind you with wind in your face and a car coming the other way. They're hard enough to hear when you're walking through a parking lot.
This is a great deal on a good device. I highly recommend this if you're ever going to pedal next to cars in bike lanes. It gives you extra awareness on what's approaching behind you so you can be proactive.

I agree that it's as vital as a good helmet.

Get a good mount for it though, I bought an aftermarket one that mounts to the seat rail. The one included in the package is a rubber band so it'll not last too long.

You'll also need a bike computer, phone, or Garmin watch to hear/see the alerts.

In case anybody ordering this. Go to Cabela, sign/ join the email club ($10 off) and a sms/text welcome ($10 off) Stacked both coupon and bring the total to $129.98 (plus tax)

Make sure to turn off your ad blocker for the pop up.

I wasn't going to jump for $149 but for $129, why not!

How does it work as a radar? Would it be suitable for a scooter?

As a frequent cyclist on the road, on the bike trail. anywhere and everywhere I bit. It has such good reviews and I have heard of it but always thought "nah just another gizmo, don't I have enough?"
I guess not...

Looks like it's possible to mount it on the mudguard but you'll need 3rd party mounting accessories.

Yes you can use this on your scooter some people already doing this. Do a search on Reddit

You can download the garmin radar varia app on your phone without a cycling head unit.

I plan to buy with an optional seat so maybe under the seat or on post. It looks like something i'll need because scooter riders get hit by cars where i am.

Can't say enough good things about the 510 and 515. Some people comment that they over-alert in cities. Yes, it's a lot of alerts. But the way they pulse and vary the light makes you noticeable. A lot of beeping and being highly visible is way better than going without. And I'm very sure the Varia's saved me from getting clipped on country roads where traffic is rare but can be very dangerous, esp. near dawn and dusk.

I'm another one of those who thought "do I really need another bike gadget" to "I won't ride my bike without it". It really is that good!
