To be clear, all Roku has done file a patent last August regarding a methods of ad delivery that would inject ads over paused content on HDMI inputs. Anyone who has followed any tech for any amount of time knows that patents are filled all the time without any plans or timeline for implementation.

But that didn't stop a few tech journalists from writing some sensationally clickbaity articles that resulted in the knee-jerk pearl-clutching seen above.

Would ads like that suck? Probably. Should you preemptively ditch Roku? Probably not, because if you did that based on every patent filing that might be considered "user-hostile", you would quickly run out of devices and platforms to use.

I like that the Roku search shows many different services in the results. Other companies limit it to themselves.
Free Roku channel free videos have the least ads too, usually 3-4x less minutes than the multiple others that offer the same free show

Example if I accidentally pick a freevee offering from prime. First 1:30 commercial break and realize my mistake. Load same video on Roku channel for 15-30 second ads.

I like that the Roku search shows many different services in the results. Other companies limit it to themselves.

How the #$@#$ do they put ads on the HDMI inputs.? So even if I have an external devicve like a Blueray player there will be ads on that input when i use it.... if I have that right that's messed up.....

on smart TVs with Roku built in they are starting to do that.., which is absurd. that's why I absolutely hate Roku, dumb stuff like this is what they do

google tv, and fire tv do the same thing, they show multiple services....

I have a ROKU TCL tv works well but I hope they don't do an "update" and try to sneak that in.... but Im guessing they might..... It would defintely prevent me from getting another ROKU based tv.....

Roku show/movie search lists out all of the services by price, subscription and ads. Google/Amazon must have hard nudged me to what they wanted, or they've overhauled since.

Yeah roku has been ok. I have multiple sticks and roku tvs now. But if they add adds on other inputs I will not be inclined to buy another roku product again. I use a tivo on antenna now and still love it.
