To be clear, all Roku has done file a patent last August regarding a methods of ad delivery that would inject ads over paused content on HDMI inputs. Anyone who has followed any tech for any amount of time knows that patents are filled all the time without any plans or timeline for implementation.

But that didn't stop a few tech journalists from writing some sensationally clickbaity articles that resulted in the knee-jerk pearl-clutching seen above.

Would ads like that suck? Probably. Should you preemptively ditch Roku? Probably not, because if you did that based on every patent filing that might be considered "user-hostile", you would quickly run out of devices and platforms to use.

I like that the Roku search shows many different services in the results. Other companies limit it to themselves.
Free Roku channel free videos have the least ads too, usually 3-4x less minutes than the multiple others that offer the same free show

Example if I accidentally pick a freevee offering from prime. First 1:30 commercial break and realize my mistake. Load same video on Roku channel for 15-30 second ads.

The Great Courses Signature Collection is good if you like educational content.

Much better to order from, watch on ROKU.
From Amazon on Roku it takes 4 or 5 clicks to get to the streaming channel homepage. add more clicks if you misclick during the annoying clicking. may have to start over with the clicking. Click. ClickClick.

Roku takes 1 or 2 clicks.

The Beekeeper on MGM+ . It about a 55 year old short bald guy that beats up 100 Armed bad guys with his bare hands.

I hear it's based on a true story.
The content available on MGM+ is somewhat limited but it is way cheaper than Amazon Prime or Hulu. You get all the new MGM stuff plus most Paramount movies. MGM+ also has American Fiction which is another good movie.

Roku is by far the best. Those complaining about ads have clearly never monitored their network traffic with a Fire TV device or anything from Google is connected.

Yea, went with cinemax. 30 minutes later i canceled.
in 5 minutes found out nothing i really wanted to watch.
there were some movies i would have watched (for the 1 millionth time), james bond movies, but they were not 4k.

I looked at the other movie channel selections that had discounts,
i looked at their channel icons, they have a tiny image of one of their movies. ya ,naw, nope.

Shady billing by Roku. Although the promo was $1/mo for 2 months, they bill on whole calendar months.

So when we signed up in May, we were charged about 30 cents.
On June 1, 99 cents.
Today, they debited from my PayPal $4.03 (which now includes tax lol)

So it's the remainder of the promotion + the full price for any days until the end of the month. Probably not worth fighting them over, but I will never subscribe via Roku Channel again.

Let's get out the pitchforks. laugh out loud
