I just ordered the previous Ibanez posted (Ibanez Talman Series TMB100 Electric Bass Guitar $169). I know nothing about these 2 guitars. Which one is better?

Mine had a ton of fret buzz out of the box and I had to spend a lot of time with the setup which was a tough hurdle for a beginner. Ended up being ok to learn, but I would have rather spent some more money on a better bass.

I own the TMB100 and have played a GSR in store (not sure if it was a 150 or 200). They both have good-feeling necks (the GSR is slimmer) and seem like excellent value for the money.

The GSR is more 80s metal-oriented while the TMB is more 60s/70s. They both have powerful EQ options so one could probably play almost any type of music on either one - but you may prefer the sound of one or the other, I haven't heard them head-to-head.

I personally prefer the looks of the Talman and have no complaints about it. Whichever one inspires you to play more is the better one for you.

Especially if one is a beginner, it's worth budgeting $50-80 for a pro setup on any new guitar that you buy - that would probably be a better use of money than spending towards a more expensive bass.

Very positive experience with this bass. Bought via SD couple years ago for $140, has worked spectacularly as a beginner instrument. Holds value well (Craigslist, FB MP, etc) if needing to resell at any point.

Personally, I think this is the way to go if you are a beginner wanting to see if bass guitar is for you (as opposed to starting with higher end model), since it's so easy to resell. nod My 2ยข.

Thanks for posting OP! hug

Agreed, but I'd still say buy a better bass and also pay for the setup

Or you can order from Sweetwater. Supposedly they set up all their guitars before shipping.

Only guitars over $399 get their 55 point inspection.

Last guitar I bought from them that supposedly had a 55 point inspection still needed work to get it playable.

I love seeing deals like this because entry level Ibanez continues to beat inflation.

Cheapest sound gear basses back in the 90s were $300 and this GIO is probably just as good if not better than it.

Bought a mikro bass from adorama recently and it required no setup and actually sounds decent!!

I've unfortunately purchased guitars from them that had unplayable buzz, I don't think their employees have enough time with each guitar to really set it up properly.

The 55 point inspection is not the same as a setup, which they do offer for an additional cost.

Is the 55-point Inspection the same as a "setup"?
Our 55-point Inspection is different than a setup, because our inspection ensures that the instrument meets manufacturer tolerances, whereas a setup tailors the guitar to a player's specific preferences. A setup typically involves our world-class Guitar Workshop installing your preferred strings, adjusting to a requested action height, and even installing new pickups or other parts. If you would like your instrument set up before it ships, simply tell your Sales Engineer. They'll be happy to oblige.

Phillip McKnight did a video on the 55 point inspection.

Great bass. I owned one and gigged with it regularly in the early 2000's. Don't think they called it part of the Gio series back then, but maybe I just missed that part. Either way, great beginner bass with a variety of tones for pretty much any genre. Not terribly heavy, either, which is a plus. One of the best values in beginner basses with a price that has held pretty steady over the years.

Dang no 5 string? I'd be all over if so. My buddies Gio (6 string guitar, among other Ibanez) is some of the best budget guitars i've ever played (after bridge pickup swap).

Ibanez ftw!
