Wilson forge is a pretty good indoor outdoor basketball. It's not a pure rubber ball that turns into garbage. Great feel for a driveway ball. Not sure the difference between forge and forge pro. Forge plus is apparently made with recycled material, not sure it's worth a premium.

I have the DRV blue color. It is really grippy and rubbery but way too bouncy.

Unless you know he'd be playing on a team or in a league that would be using the 5, I'd start them on size 6 at that age. They start using size 6 in rec ball as early as age 8.

For outdoor ball, yes, definitely get the cheaper one.
