Instead of flying over to bora bora, takr a short ferry to moorea, which also has bora bora like resorts, which the locals travel to for vacation and much cheaper than staying in bora bora. Also dont forget to try the local favoritr "posson crue" - a coconut milk based poke.

just DO it. if you want luxury, you got it on Bora Bora. if you just want to do some sightseeing, you can find cheap stays in many islands out there. even for Bora Bora. you can try to save on everything but make sure you splurge on the tours.

Any resort/hotel recommendations for a couple? Considering this if I can find affordable connecting flight from NE.

Moorea is not worth the time at all. Those who travel to Tahiti must go to Bora Bora. Yeah moorea is for the locals because it is cheaper, ferry ride away from their homes. Does make it good? It's the only island that's easily accessible for them, that's why. They don't need another island overrun with tourists. Leave it for them. Besides you ain't flying 8-12 hours to see a pretty island. You want to see a spectacular island - and that's Bora Bora.

Depends on what your looking for. If you're into diving and enjoying the nature it's really amazing. Also check out Marlin Brando's private Island called Tatieroa (or something like that, it's about 1.5 hoir boat ride you have to arrange) it's an uninhibited Island, so gorgeous if you enjoy nature. I recommend doing it with a group.
Also Sheraton is great, and some locals also rent out some jice cabins if you want to go cheap. Like $500 for a hilltop cabin for 2 weeks (but probably plan these for a seconfd or later trip when you've already made connections with some locals there).
Maybe Sheraton is a good choice on the first stay.

Definitely check out the Rotui juice factory and passin fruit plantations (they have freshly made ice-creams I have never had any where else). Also at the juice factory they make amazing cocktails, they do have free sample shots all day, or at least they used to when I was last there. There are some gorgeous h8kes that go uo the rudges behind the Juice factory, got to connect with locals for that.

But if you want the more luxury and restort/touristy or more premium experience go to Bora Bora. For me personally Moorea is my favorite place, and I have never been able to score a ticket this cheap. This is super cheap. I am more used to ticket prices closer to 1200-1500.

So when we went to Bora Bora, we had originally booked French Bee, but French Bee has this nasty habit of cancelling flights at the last second. Luckily this wasn't the case for us and we had enough time to book the almost 3x more expensive United flight, but when you've invested in a vacation like this, you don't want your first leg to cancel on you 24hrs before departure.

We stayed at the St. Regis and if you want to see what it is like, just see the rooms shown in the movie 'Couples Retreat' which was filmed there. Our bathroom was identical.

The housekeeping staff there is the finest I've ever seen in my life, and I've been in the hospitality industry for most of my life. Just a paradise on every level. The restaurants are quite good and the one that has a glass floor is amazing as you can just look down and see sea life and look out and see the sunset. I will never forget that place. If you go, see if Safi is still there as she was amazing taking care of stuff for us.

But we also stayed at two places in Tahiti--one whose name I can't remember on the way in, and the Four Seasons on the way out. The one whose name I cannot remember has the most magical black sand beach I have ever been to. It was so soft that it felt like carpet, and on an early morning there was just you and the crabs out on the beach. The water was still crystal clear too and there was a section where you could walk knee deep in it seeing all the ocean's wonders at your feet as you carefully step. I even flew a kite there with my feet in the water and it was magical.

Four Seasons was alright, but on par more with a regular US hotel than a resort. Still they did have a great dinner show buffet and they did have baby sharks just off the shore when we were walking back to to our rooms--neat to see in the wild.

Plenty of luxury over water bungalo resorts at moorea, at more thsn 50% discount from similar rooms in bora bora. Can still get the picturesque magazine vacation experience with long tahitian sunsets in moorea. But if you like paying top dollar, go for bora bora.

Probably not the same level of resorts if the locals go there, price does bring the luxury.

Is Tahiti worth flying from the east coast? How does it compare to the Caribbean?
