I have this one as well and it works great in NC clay. However, let me give you one huge tip: Brace your arm against your ribs/side while gripping the left side of the handle, OR have a second person help you. If you don't, as soon as you hit a rock the auger will stop spinning and the motorhead will start spinning, and it will hit you so hard in the cockadoodle that you need to go to urgent care. Don't ask how I know

I have this exact one, paid $150 a couple years ago. It's great if you need 6" holes, but struggles with bigger auger diameters. I would recommend stronger setups if you need bigger holes. I bought an aftermarket 8" and 10" auger bit, and it can barely turn the 10" bit after about 6 inches of soil. Hope this helps.

This seems very similar, if not the same, as my Harbor Freight auger. That has done a good job while installing chain link fence posts, planting plants, installing mailbox posts, and just breaking up the ground in general. Plenty of power, a bit noisy, helps to be up wind from that 2 cycle exhaust, which is pretty close to your face and can get some baseball sized rocks out but anything larger will require a digging iron.
This was one of those "I could install the fence myself, save money on the labor and I have an excuse to buy another tool" ideas.
I believe I paid $180 a few years ago at Harbor Freight, so $136 sounds like a Slick Deal.

This seems very similar, if not the same, as my Harbor Freight auger. That has done a good job while installing chain link fence posts, planting plants, installing mailbox posts, and just breaking up the ground in general. Plenty of power, a bit noisy, helps to be up wind from that 2 cycle exhaust, which is pretty close to your face and can get some baseball sized rocks out but anything larger will require a digging iron.
This was one of those "I could install the fence myself, save money on the labor and I have an excuse to buy another tool" ideas.
I believe I paid $180 a few years ago at Harbor Freight, so $136 sounds like a Slick Deal.

I have this exact one, paid $150 a couple years ago. It's great if you need 6" holes, but struggles with bigger auger diameters. I would recommend stronger setups if you need bigger holes. I bought an aftermarket 8" and 10" auger bit, and it can barely turn the 10" bit after about 6 inches of soil. Hope this helps.

I will be needing to do some larger 10" holes soon. Would starting with the 6" bit and then stepping up to 8 and then 10 work?

Like a few others, I got it a few years ago on here. Well worth it. I use it a lot more then I thought I would. Planting trees, bushes and other stuff. Anytime I need to dig a hole I grab it.

I've owned this model for 3yrs and only used it a few times. I start it atleast every 4-6months to run the engine for a bit and has kept it alive and well all 3 yrs.

I also bought the HF 6" to put up privacy fence...that thing works great right down to about 30". The only tough part is getting the hole centered, if you hit rocks or roots up high, it might skid off center. This was in virgin clay with tree roots.from treeline that came down.

I put 4x4 treated in the 6" hole and made a tamper...a little rock in the bottom, then just tamped the sides an inch at a time, rotating all the way up. I don't know if 6" hole is big enough if using concrete around a 4x4, but it worked great with tamping.

Used it many times since and it always starts fine and runs like a bat out of hell. It a heavy 2 cycle mix.

I'm the kind of person who reads bad reviews before good ones…. especially with Woot stuff (aka Amazon's yard sale) , and everything I've ever bought from Woot has turned to crap within months. He's one product review worthy of further research: "How can this be 3 HP ? 52 cc and with 1.3KW can only equate to approximately 2HP. And all of other motors in this category is 2 HP. 3"

Got one 7 years ago and have dug around 750 3 foot holes and still runs like new. Heavy clay here so when it's too dry and hard I just dig until no more and fill with water and come back in a couple of hours and it's just like butter finishing hole. No ethanol and run dry over winter.

I have a very similar 43cc auger. I had a heck of a time getting this thing to break ground for fence posts. I ended up getting putting water in the hole to soften the ground, using the auger to make a thick mud slurry, and then I used a regular post hill digger and digging out the loose dirt every 2-4". After it would get beyond 2-4" it would just immediately bind up. Less actual muscle work than a post hole digger, but it really slowed me down. Anyone have any tips on making this thing cut through the ground better?

I plan to do a few fencing projects and then this thing is going straight to the FB marketplace. Fortunately I got it from a friend for $70 so I still am getting my money's worth.
