Microcenter [microcenter.com]has the 256GB with M3 16gb for $1,169 rn. I didn't even realize this build was an option. If you store most stuff in the cloud and don't need the HD space this seems like a great deal. So compared with this original deal you would be paying at least $180 more for an additional 256gb, which you can buy as a flash from for like $20-$30 bucks. Or just get 1TB for like $50-$70 bucks.

Not OP but.... I'm getting the m3 for my fiance's birthday. She mostly does web browsing / social media. She doesn't have a laptop at all rn. I just hope this is future proof enough for the next 5 years or so . I grabbed the micro center M3 deal with 16GB RAM and 10 core

Anyone know what other retailers have this config? Micro center is in store only and I don't live near any.

This is more than enough. You could even get the $700 M1 Air from Walmart and it's overkill for web browsing and social media.

A $200 Windows laptop can handle those tasks lol.

Typically the edu price is $100 off regular price, so this config would be $1399 + $150 GC.
Also I think they discount the Macbook by another $150 and you 'buy' the GC to keep people from gaming the system by trying to return the computer and keep the card.

16GB RAM + 512GB SSD will do for the majority of users over the next five years unless you need to do hardcore video editing and graphics rendering often or as your job. Otherwise, these base M-series chips can be seen running laps around the higher specced newest (last) generation of Intel based MacBook Pros for those tasks even! I'd have stuck with the 15" Air personally, but I found I needed more than 8GB in about a third of my normal usage and found 256GB a compromise that left me barely any breathing room on my SSD.. so once I specced a 16/512 Air I was within $100 of the 14" MacBook Pro, so I exchanged up. Of course, that was before all these crazy discounts on Airs and the j production of the MacBook "Pro" (without the M3 "Pro" in it lol). Pricing ladders can take you half way up to the top haha, this deal would be more than enough to last most users 5+ years!
