Great deal for a cabinet shop or serious woodworker, especially with the 3 included spindles. Folks here have spent that much on router setup with router table and specialty fence gadget. With this you could make runs of mill work moldings, raise panels, and so on.

On the other hand it's a beast at over 300lb and requires a 240V circuit.

As with most things I buy on SD, I am sure it is really good at being unused and collecting dust.

Very cool deal, Thanks for posting.

I've spent $500 on other crazy items that I haven't used yet, but I'm just not quite up to this level of slickdealism yet. The level where I could justify to myself an $1000 expenditure of such a large ,obscure, shop real estate taker upper, that I'll hardly ever use.

Believe me, I'd love this, but my woodworking skills and woodworking space just can't handle it.

Thumbs up for posting a woodworking deal though.

So- getting into wood working, I haven't bought a router table yet, would it be a good idea or way overkill to buy this instead? I already have 240v in my garage.

Shapers are awesome but very expensive usually. At this price, it is a steal. If I didn't have a fully set up router table, I would buy this. Router table lifts kits, fence kit, table, and 3+ hp router will probably run you around this price, if not more. You'll need a nonstationary router anyway. But you will be buying shaper bits and router bits, which will be very expensive over time.

Ha, you mean like the router lift I got on SD that I haven't installed in my table saw wing yet? Not sure I have the shop space for this but it would be a huge time saver to have vs. customizing a box & wing, assuming it's better than what I can make. Plus, another $65 and you can get an adapter to use router bits.

Crazy good deal if you're on the market for one. Having a spinning object that size (shaper cutter) spinning at 10k RPMs is pretty scary. If I bought this, I would be investing in an power feeder, as well.

According to the manual, this does not support HDMI 2.1b, so it's not future-proof.

Many years ago I worked in a cabinet shop as the "door and drawer" man, and used shapers this size to shape the stiles and rails for raised panel doors, and an even bigger 5hp shaper to raise panels. Usually red oak and birch for most jobs. Also set up for other runs of moldings.

There is no comparison to a "3hp+ router" when doing this kind of work.

Oddly enough, carbide-tipped shaper cutters were way more expensive than they are now (thanks China/Taiwan). Check Amazon to see current prices.

The big kicker now is lumber prices—absolutely nuts, especially over the last 4 years!

Thank you for answering a question I did not know I had until you pre-answered it.

Since the max RPM is 10k, vs the 24k we'd want for smaller bits- would that be problematic if getting this in lieu of a router table?

Note the router I picked up is Bosch 2.25hp, though I haven't used it yet.

This would be a bad idea unless you're wanting to run moulding or picture frame materials, etc.
For the hobbyist woodworker, the extra costs of shaper bits over router bits will make this unusable.
Not even all pro wood shops need a shaper table.
Theyre not really even extra big routers… it's a different tool for different purposes with some overlap of functionality.

My thought is to use the router bit adapter and focus on those, but where appropriate use the shaper bits for projects making picture frames, trim, etc.

You can use this instead of a router table, but it doesn't spin fast enough to use router bits properly. Plan on buy expensive shaper cutters instead of cheap router bits.
