Bought the 3s Granite for this prices in March during the last sale. I then proceeded to pay about as much as the car cost in replacement parts over the last few months. Not to mention the ESC and servo that crapped out and were replaced under warranty... The car is lots of fun, super fast, and very capable but be warned: if you plan to "bash", you will spend more time fixing than driving. These are hobby grade cars and part of the hobby is wrenching. You are buying into a new hobby, not just a casual toy.
Perfect time to introduce them to RC cars! Then you and them can go out and bash or race!
I won't completely disagree with you. I own RC rigs from many manufacturers including most of the brand names and some of the no-name brands. I've been generally impressed with the no-name brands, but my expectations were very low. And at the end of the day, the no-name brands will not have the same level of durability as Arrma, Traxxas, Losi, Axial, Team Associated, etc.

Probably not a popular opinion, but I'd recommend getting the Laegendary Legend instead for this price point if it's your first foray into the hobby. It's about half the price depending on sales available, cheaper replacement parts and general very durable based on my own experience and YouTube videos of it taking a beating. You can also buy a 3s battery for it and run it without worry (I ran it on 4s and the esc would occasionally refuse to work).

Skip the vortex, that car is too small and it's constantly upside down! I hardly use mine and I have the entire line of arrma. The 3s typhon is also a iffy car. It's fun and fast but breaks more often than the other models. The 6s typhon is very solid but not the 3s.

I'm a big Arrma fan, have several of their rigs. You make a really good point though. The market is so full of comparable and compatible products, no need to spend more than you need to.
